Position Overview: Compensation Range $140,000 - $160,000 / Year Eligible for a hybrid work schedule split between home & office. This role is critical in ensuring compliance with indirect tax regulations, optimizing tax strategies, and supporting the financial integrity of our global operations. Here’s more of what you’ll get to do: Oversee all aspects of indirect tax compliance, including sales, use, and Canada VAT taxes, ensuring timely and accurate filing and payment across multiple jurisdictions, account reconciliations, and journal entries. Manage and coordinate tax audits, including preparing documentation, responding to inquiries, and negotiating settlements with tax authorities. Resolve tax notices and similar matters. Perform reasonableness testing and data analysis to validate proper calculation and collection of indirect taxes. Lead and grow a team of indirect tax professionals. Provide guidance and support to internal stakeholders on cross-departmental projects, i.e. system upgrades, marketing initiatives, and new technologies. Complete sales tax license/permit registrations in cooperation with Legal, Payroll, and Construction Departments. Identify opportunities for improving tax processes and controls to enhance efficiency and accuracy. Prepare and review invoice and contract sales tax reviews, use tax accruals and refund requests. Provide expert advice on the indirect tax implications of business decisions, contracts, and new initiatives. Stay current with changes in tax laws and regulations, assessing their impact on the company's tax strategy and compliance. Coordinate with external tax advisors and leverage their expertise. Evaluate and mitigate the company’s risks associated with indirect taxes. Assist with SOX compliance and internal audit requests. Optimize tax technology to streamline tax compliance and reporting processes. Support the Associate Director, Tax on strategic tax planning analyses and initiatives to achieve value-added results. What we require: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or equivalent certification a plus. 7+ years of multistate indirect tax experience. 2 + years of management experience. Deep understanding of indirect tax regulations, including sales, use, and VAT taxes; experience with food/beverage/alcohol taxes a plus. Proven ability to lead and develop a high-performing team, manage multiple priorities, and meet strict deadlines. Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to discuss indirect tax issues with ease with vendors, auditors, and taxing agencies, and the ability to clearly convey complex tax concepts to non-tax professionals. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to identifying and addressing tax issues. Professional Excel experience creating and using complex formulas and macros to analyze and manipulate data. Proficiency in ERP systems; experience with Infor CSF, Ross and/or Lawson a plus. Hands on approach to managing the indirect tax function. Ability to research complex indirect tax issues and make sound conclusions and recommendations; experience with Avalara (TTR) & Bloomberg platforms a plus. An enthusiasm for emerging technologies and their application to indirect taxes. High level of accuracy and attention to detail in managing tax compliance and reporting responsibilities. Strong interpersonal skills with a collaborative approach to working with cross-functional teams and external partners. Ability to think strategically about tax issues, with a focus on long-term planning and risk management. Sound accounting fundamentals to review, reconstruct, research and reconcile tax calculations. Unwavering commitment to ethical conduct and integrity in managing tax responsibilities. What we prefer: Experience developing, implementing, or utilizing tax technology solutions, (i.e. bots, Alteryx). Proficiency with VBA, macros, index/match, indirect, and sum if functions. An understanding of the sales tax components of multi-unit, multi-concept point of sale systems; experience with POSitouch & Aloha systems a plus. Certified Member of the Institute (CMI) designation in sales tax. Restaurant industry sales tax experience.
