Manager, Intermodal Drayage

Purpose Statement

The Intermodal Drayage Manager will be responsible for overseeing and managing the strategic procurement and utilization of drayage capacity to support efficient and cost-effective operations. The role requires maintaining strong relationships with carriers, negotiating rates, optimizing load planning, and ensuring smooth and timely drayage services. This position is pivotal to ensuring that customer demands are met with high-quality service while maintaining profitability for the company.

Key Accountabilities and Outcomes

•    Carrier Management:

Build and maintain strong relationships with drayage carriers to secure capacity for the Intermodal Division. Negotiate contracts and rates with carriers to ensure competitive pricing and service levels. Conduct regular performance reviews of carrier partners and implement improvement plans as needed.

•    Capacity Planning:

Develop and execute strategic plans for drayage capacity to support peak volumes and long-term business growth. Monitor market trends and adjust capacity strategies accordingly to mitigate risks and capitalize on opportunities. Forecast and manage capacity needs based on volume projections and seasonal variations.

•    Operational Oversight:

Collaborate with operations teams to optimize intermodal routings. Coordinate with intermodal terminals, ports, and customers to ensure timely and efficient drayage moves. Address and resolve any issues related to delays, service failures, or disputes with carriers promptly.

•    Performance Metrics & Reporting:

Track and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) related to drayage operations, such as on-time delivery, cost per move, and carrier utilization. Prepare and present reports on capacity performance, cost analysis, and operational efficiencies. Continuously improve processes and suggest data-driven strategies to enhance performance and cost management.

•    Compliance & Safety:

Ensure all drayage carriers are properly vetted, set up, and monitored in operating system. Ensure all drayage operations are compliant with federal, state, and local regulations, including safety and environmental guidelines. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of regulatory changes and work with carriers to adhere to compliance standards.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

Work closely with sales, customer service, and operations teams to understand and fulfill customer needs. Provide input on drayage capacity for bids and proposals to ensure feasibility and competitive pricing.
  Knowledge, Skills, and Experience Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or a related field preferred. High School Diploma/GED required. Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in drayage, intermodal, or transportation capacity management, preferably within a 3PL environment. Proven experience in negotiating carrier contracts and managing carrier relationships. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Proficient with both quantitative and qualitative analysis including advanced skills with MS Excel and Access. Excellent communication and negotiation abilities. Proficiency in transportation management systems (TMS) and other relevant software tools. Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple priorities effectively. Deep understanding of drayage operations, intermodal transportation, and related regulatory requirements. Familiarity with market trends and pricing strategies within the transportation industry. Office setting with regular travel to meet with carriers, visit intermodal terminals, or attend industry conferences.

COMPENSATION

In accordance with state law, the rate or range provided is Rich Products Corporation, its subsidiaries and affiliates (“Rich’s”), reasonable estimate of the base compensation for this role. The actual amount may be higher or lower, based on non-discriminatory factors such as experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, shift differential, and location.

 

Annual Range/Hourly Rate

$74,480.00 - $111,720.00
