Job Description

This role is integral to the Procurement Team, focusing on the strategic planning and execution of transportation logistics for international shipments. The position demands a thorough understanding of the supply chain to identify and implement cost-saving and performance-enhancing opportunities. Responsibilities include analyzing transportation data to uncover cost reduction and process improvement possibilities and collaborating with various departments to optimize freight allocation decisions through advanced data analytics. The role also involves managing carrier relationships and driving continuous improvement initiatives to enhance service and reduce costs.

Major Key Accountabilities

Carrier Relationship Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with domestic and international carriers, managing onboarding, termination, and recognition programs.Strategic Initiatives: Deliver cost-saving initiatives and drive execution of optimization projects, ensuring alignment with fiscal year goals.Performance Metrics: Measure, report, and improve carrier performance metrics, preparing and presenting data for quarterly business reviews.Contract Management: Negotiate and manage all carrier contracts, ensuring timely updates and standardization of agreements.Data Analysis and Reporting: Analyze logistics data to identify cost-saving opportunities and process improvements, creating executive-level presentations.Cross-Functional Collaboration: Coordinate with internal stakeholders to optimize freight allocation and drive efficiencies, supporting decarbonization and sustainability initiatives.Process Improvement: Ensure SOPs are updated and maintained and manage change processes to enhance supply chain efficiency.Team Leadership: Lead, mentor, and develop team members, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional development.Technology and Innovation: Leverage technology and data analytics to drive innovation and continuous improvement in logistics processes.Compliance and Risk Management: Ensure compliance with industry regulations and manage risks associated with transportation and logistics.

Cost Savings: Track cost reduction achieved through optimized transportation and procurement strategies.Efficiency Improvements: Measure improvements in transportation efficiency, such as reduced transit times and increased on-time delivery rates.Carrier Performance: Assess the reliability and service quality of carriers.Data Analysis and Reporting: Evaluate the accuracy and effectiveness of data analysis and insights provided.Process Improvements: Monitor the impact of process improvement initiatives and adoption of new technologies.Team Leadership and Development: Assess the ability to lead, mentor, and develop team members.Internal KPIs: Track performance against internal benchmarks and organizational goals.

Authority/Decision Making

Carrier Portfolio Management: Make decisions regarding the selection, negotiation, and management of carrier contracts and relationships.Performance Accountability: Hold carriers accountable for service quality and cost efficiency, implementing performance improvement measures as needed.Supply Chain Adjustments: Authorize changes to the supply chain to enhance efficiency and reduce costs.Process and SOP Updates: Approve and implement changes to standard operating procedures (SOPs) and work instructions to improve logistics operations.Logistics Strategy and Execution: Oversee the allocation of freight and manage logistics strategies to optimize overall performance.

Qualifications

Educational Background: Bachelor of Science in Supply Chain, Business, or a related field, or equivalent experience.Professional Experience: A minimum of 5-7 years in transportation, international logistics, or supply chain analytics, with a proven track record of success.

Experience

Industry Knowledge: Extensive knowledge of the international transportation industry, including ocean freight, rail, barge, drayage, full container load (FCL), less than container load (LCL), and airfreight. Strong understanding of the domestic transportation sector, covering less-than-truckload (LTL), truckload, rail, drayage, warehousing, cross-border logistics, and airfreight.Procedural Expertise: Proficient in standard import and export procedures. Experience with customs regulations and compliance is preferred.Advanced Skills: Demonstrated proficiency in international transportation pricing strategies.Logistics Software and Analytics: Familiarity with advanced logistics software and data analytics tools is advantageous.Negotiation Experience: Proven ability to negotiate complex commercial terms for master transportation agreements and ad hoc projects with freight forwarders, non-vessel operating common carriers (NVOCCs), customs brokers, and rail operators.CHEP Operations Knowledge: Familiarity with CHEP's global operations and business segments is advantageous.
