Manager, Investment Accounting

Job Summary The Controller Investment Accounting Leader will lead a team of finance professionals providing support of Thrivent’s investments in the general account. The Investment Accounting Manager leads the reporting and analysis for the portfolio of investments, fostering strong partnerships with investments, financial reporting and other stakeholders. This role involves developing and implementing analytical tools to enhance monitoring and reporting. A key responsibility is the ongoing optimization of investment accounting processes, ensuring efficiency and accuracy. The manager also ensures compliance with regulatory requirements and accounting standards. This position requires a deep understanding of investment products and accounting principles. Job Responsibilities and Duties + Financial Reporting & Analysis: Preparing accurate and timely financial reports (internal and regulatory) and providing insightful analysis of variances, and trends. + Relationship Management: Building and maintaining strong relationships with internal stakeholders. + Problem Solving & Issue Resolution: Identifying and resolving complex accounting issues, discrepancies, and audit findings related to investments. + Oversight of Investment Accounting Operations: This encompasses ensuring accurate and timely processing of investment transactions, maintaining the general ledger, and reconciling accounts. + Internal Controls & Compliance: Implementing and maintaining strong internal controls over investment accounting processes to safeguard assets and ensure compliance with NAIC regulations and internal policies. + Special Projects: Participating in special projects related to investment accounting, such as system implementations/upgrades, process improvements, or regulatory changes. Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, streamline reporting, and enhance efficiency within the Investment Accounting function + Team Leadership & Development: Recruits, develops, and sustains a high-performing team, fostering a culture of shared accountability, operational excellence, and cross-organizational partnership. + Leadership & Accountability: Models leadership competencies (courage, collaboration, commitment) by demonstrating resiliency, collaborative decision-making, and holding self and others accountable. ​ + Culture & Engagement: Supports and develops an environment focused on continuous improvement, exceptional employee engagement, and unwavering commitment to clients, upholding Thrivent's purpose, promise, and values. + Strategic & Financial Acumen: Understands enterprise strategy and finances, applying that knowledge to work and decision-making within the team and department. Job Qualifications Required: + Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business, or finance required. + 5-7+ years finance/accounting experience or other similar experience. + Analytical and problem-solving skills: The ability to analyze complex investment data, identify trends, and resolve discrepancies is critical. + Leadership and communication skills: The manager must be able to lead and mentor a team, effectively communicate and build strong cross-functional relationships. + Proven ability to identify and implement process improvements and understand data needs for reporting. Preferred: + 1-2 years managerial experience preferred. + Advanced degree in finance or professional designation (e.g., CPA, CMA, MBA) preferred. + Self-starter who is passionate about building and scaling processes. + Financial Services experience. The applicable salary or hourly wage range for this full-time role is $112,481.00 - $152,180.00 per year, which factors in various geographic regions. The base pay actually offered will be determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to, location, relevant experience, skills, and knowledge, business needs, market demand, and other factors Thrivent deems important.
