Lab Manager (Cambridge Public Health Commission d/b/a Cambridge Health Alliance; Cambridge, MA): The Lab Manager provides management to the designated specific laboratory department(s) and ensures maintenance of a high quality technical performance of such department in accordance with the laboratory department’s goals and requirements. This role will manage all personnel assigned to work in the department. Additionally, they will act as a liaison between the specific department and all internal and external customers with the specific purpose of promoting efficiency of the operations of the department while providing optimal customer service. Specific responsibilities include: Knowing and utilizing HR policies and procedures. Effectively managing sick time, lateness, and overtime; disciplines appropriately as needed. Effectively scheduling staff to maintain service requirements of the department and works effectively and cooperatively with the Laboratory Director and other managers to meet the entire laboratory department scheduling needs. Accelerating performance of staff with effective coaching and mentoring; seeks to develop employees in new skills including management tasks. Delegating effectively to staff to ensure the efficient operation of the department and to meet department goals. Effectively evaluating employees within 30 days prior to the review timeline established by Human Resources. Adequately documenting any problems with employees and submits appropriate documentation to the Laboratory Director. Counseling personnel appropriately throughout the year as needed when performance fails to meet acceptable standards. Will maintain appropriate documentation of all initial training and repeat training. Ensuring that all employees are accurately trained in all areas of the department, including but not limited to, instrument maintenance, test procedures, quality control procedures and safety procedures by completing annual review training evaluations on each employee. Ensuring that no staff is allowed to perform a procedure until there is a completed orientation training checklist on file. Ensuring that all staff meet their annual continuing education requirements every year. Ensuring that there are an appropriate number of trained charge techs. Identifying and implementing training opportunities for staff.
Minimum Requirements: Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Medical Technology or related field plus 4 years of experience as a medical technologist.
Must have: Knowledge of laboratory quality control, instrument maintenance and regulatory requirements. Knowledge of clinical hematology, chemistry, transfusion services, microbiology and general laboratory operations. Knowledge of use of LIS systems and instrument middleware and Instrumentation troubleshooting. MT (ASCP) certification or equivalent. Must meet current CLIA ’88 regulations for high complexity testing and general supervision.
