Manager, Legal Operations

The Manager, Legal Operations will optimize the efficiency and effectiveness of the Yum! legal department by collecting and analyzing department data and trends, communicating department metrics and legal operations initiatives to legal leadership and the Yum! and brand legal departments, optimizing outside counsel and vendor spend and relationships, streamlining processes, and assisting in the selection and implementation of legal technologies and tools for the benefit of the department’s team of legal professionals. This position will be located in Louisville, KY or Plano, TX (hybrid).

Salary Range: $­­139,000 to $163,500 annually + bonus eligibility. This is the expected salary range for this position. Ultimately, in determining pay, we'll consider the successful candidate’s location, experience, and other job-related factors.

Scope and Magnitude:

The Manager, Legal Operations helps develop and drive the Yum! Legal Department's priorities and key departmental projects. The Manager, Legal Operations is a highly visible and collaborative role that requires strong relationships with colleagues within the Yum! legal department, various functions and the company’s four brands – KFC, Pizza Hut, Taco Bell, and the Habit Burger Grill, both domestically and internationally.    

Responsibilities: 

Business Intelligence

Optimize data collection from law firms, vendors and the department to ensure complete and accurate information reporting Design metrics to identify department successes and opportunities for operational enhancement and efficiency Identify and design process improvements based on collected information

Communication and Reporting

Tell the story of the legal operations function and its key initiatives in a compelling and motivating way Synthesize department metrics into regular, concise, and effective reports for legal leadership Regularly communicate with Yum! and brand legal departments about legal operations initiatives, successes, and opportunities

Financial Management

Prepare resources to empower department members to optimize firm and vendor selection, including by developing department guidelines for selection and utilization of firms and vendors Maintain and optimize use of e-billing software, providing updates and training to members of the department as necessary Maintain billing guidelines and monitoring compliance (e.g., consistent discounting and/or alternative fee arrangements, diversity / staffing metrics) Assistance with development of annual department budgets and ongoing tracking of spend

Legal Technology

Coordinate with internal stakeholders to optimize departmental workflows, improve productivity, identify department’s needs, oversee technology programs, develop strategic technology roadmaps for department’s technology resources (e.g., e-billing software, legal entity database, e-discovery solutions, and contract/document management system) and assist in selection and implementation of technology and tools to drive department efficiency Serve as liaison to IT department, Finance, Accounts Payable, etc. regarding technical support of the department technology and integration with company systems

Education: 

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent preferred with concentration in legal, finance, operations or other analytical area; JD not required

Experience & Other Skills:

At least 5 years of relevant experience, preferably within a corporate legal department performing a similar function or as an office or procurement manager within a large office or department Strong communication, writing and organizational skills Detail-oriented, with creative and polished written and oral presentation skills Extremely comfortable with technology and familiarity with legal technology programs Entrepreneurial mindset with experience building and implementing systems Self-motivated team player with ability to drive projects, identify and resolve legal and business issues, and earn confidence and cooperation of business partners Outstanding influencing and collaboration skills Experience working with all levels of the organization  Sound judgment and strong critical thinking and analytical skills Ability to prioritize and perform multiple tasks High personal and professional integrity and the ability to maintain confidentiality and establish personal credibility within the department and organization
