Position Summary
Position reports to the Associate Director of Japan Medical Communications within Japan Medical and is responsible for the planning and timely execution of scientifically accurate and strategically aligned communications plan that support the local medical communication needs of the Japan Markets.
Key Responsibilities
A core member of Japan Medical Communications Team, the Manager of Japan Medical Communications is accountable for the following:
Medical Communications Strategy:
Leads across the BMS matrix to develop and timely delivery of strategically aligned medical publications, scientific content, medical information, training content, and congress presentations at local market levelEnsures endorsement of medical communications plans by relevant governance bodies prior to execution, and continuously develops and maintains plans in conjunction with scientific landscape and in alignment with Local Market Medical, Worldwide (WW) Medical and medical market-level strategyServes as the Japan Medical Communications point of contact between WW/Local Medical, and other matrix partnersProvides medical communications management oversight to Local Market MedicalEnhances bi-directional communication by understanding and sharing the WW medical communications plans to Local Market Medical and raises local market needs to WW Medical/Medical Communications teams, ensuring country/global level of awareness & connectivityUnderstand the communication needs across Japan Market and own the pull-through and execution of the Scientific Narrative, development & execution of functionally integrated publication plan, content plan, and application to the Scientific Communication Platform (SCP).Must have strong business acumen, ability to interface with market matrix partners & manage Market-level Medical Communications budgetData Dissemination:
Serve as a subject matter expert to BMS internal audiences related to Market-level communication landscape, HCP preferences, publication and scientific content planning, data disclosure / dissemination, and represent BMS scientific communications to external investigators, key authors and journal editors.Promotes and reinforces principles among authors and internal publication stakeholder community, ensuring publications are authored, written, and reviewed according to publication best practices and BMS standards and policies for Japan Market and for ensuring BMS publication & scientific content standards are aligned with Good Publication Practices and industry standards, and all BMS employees engaged in publication activities follow Good Publication Practices guidance with the highest degree of integrity, quality and transparency.Demonstrates understanding of therapeutic disease areas, market-level expertise to support the establishment of strong working collaborations with both internal and external disease-area experts to ensure quality data analysis, interpretation, communication planning & data disclosure/dissemination.Ensures collection of market-level insights to deliver high quality medical communication that enables the most impactful dialogue and interactions with customers at the market level.Identifies and drives opportunities to enhance processes, tools, operating procedures, and outsourcing strategy to ensure consistent delivery and alignment of standards across Markets.Stakeholder Engagement:
Fostering collaborative relationships with academic & clinical experts, publishers, medical associations & other relevant market stakeholder groups; participating in external initiatives to foster trust and respect amongst academic and medical publishing communityPartners with TA Medical Communication Leads, Market Medical and other stakeholder to assess, plan, and allocate resources (budget, medical writing, biostatistical services) to ensure timely delivery of high-quality medical communicationsPartners externally with 3rd party vendors to ensure the appropriate balance of internal and external execution of workEstablishes clear metrics aligned & regularly communicates metrics with key markets medical stakeholdersOther responsibilities:

Advance scientific degree, PharmD, PhD or MD preferred2-5+ years of Pharmaceutical/Healthcare industry experience with a focus on medical communications; experience in both local country & global preferredDemonstrated ability to lead strategically, drive performance, build alignment, inform, negotiate and collaborateExperience working cross-functional, with cross-cultural project teams, and collaborating across matrix, markets and global geographiesProven ability to work in an ambiguous environment & demonstrated success driving optimal business results in a large complex corporate environment with multiple priorities and tight timelinesAbility to manage timelines and quality of work using strong leadership, organizational, communication, facilitation and interpersonal skillsOutstanding interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills with exceptional time management skillsExperience leading medical communications across all phases of drug development and commercializationAbility to analyze and interpret trial dataAbility to influence and negotiate appropriate solutions; ability to establish strong stakeholder relationshipsAbility to flexibly schedule and participate in teleconferences and virtual meetings across different time zonesAbility to travel (domestically and internationally)Knowledge Desired
