Job Summary

The Manager, Network Engineering, leads and manages the Network Engineering group within the IT Infrastructure Department in the Division of the Chief Information Officer. This position is responsible for the planning, specification, procurement, deployment, operation and maintenance of networking and telecommunications facilities and services, as well as oversight of vendor-supplied equipment and services.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in computer science, information technology or relevant field Five (5) years of professional experience with progressive responsibility in network design and support, including a minimum two (2) years in a demonstrated leadership capacity Relevant combinations of education, training and experience may be considered.

Preferred Qualifications

Advanced degree in computer science, information technology, or relevant field Previous experience in higher education environment Previous experience in direct supervision of technical staff 

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Ability to manage both information systems special projects and ongoing operations. Ability to plan and manage resources and supervise staff. Ability to manage and direct problem resolution processes and build consensus among stakeholders to resolve conflicting interests or needs. Demonstrated oral and written communication skills Planning, organizing and effective time management skills Excellent interpersonal and communication skills Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet established goals and objectives Ability to anticipate and solve problems Operational familiarity with contemporary technologies, such as: Cisco routers, VPNs, firewalls, switches, Unified Communications Manager, wireless controllers, IPv4, IPv6, Qo5, BGP, OSPF, DHCP and DNS.

Local travel between campus locations only

Driving

Incidental driving possible, but not required

Starting Salary/Rate

Expected Hiring Range: $100,000 - $118,000

Pay Transparency Disclosure: The selected candidate's salary will be determined based on factors that include the available budget, internal equity, and the final candidate's qualifications, experience, education and other job-related credentials. This hiring range is provided as Rensselaer's good faith estimate of the expected hiring range at the time of posting.
