Manager, Newbuild Decarbonization Strategy

Position Summary:

Responsible for the development and implementation of the Group’s decarbonization strategy for the newbuild portfolio - collaborating closely with newbuild project and maritime technology teams. As a key member of a cross-functional Decarbonization team, this person will use interpersonal and analytical skills to initiate and support decarbonization and sustainability initiatives across the Group’s project portfolio. The ideal candidate possesses strong organizational and interpersonal skills to drive initiative progress. Strong research and analytical abilities will be required to inform the development of the Group’s decarbonization strategy.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:    

Develop and refine the decarbonization strategy for newbuild projects, aligning with the Group’s emission reduction, technology and future fuel strategies. Draws conclusions and make recommendations from independent research, operational data, external knowledge partners and research publications to inform strategy development and develop recommendations for department and executive leadership. Development of investment business cases, techno-economic and risk assessments for the newbuild decarbonization strategy and, as needed, for individual newbuilding or technical assurance projects Create and maintain metrics and KPIs to measure the progress and effectiveness of newbuild decarbonization initiatives. Leads special projects and specially formed teams to work on specific decarbonization initiatives or to represent decarbonization initiatives to the broader Group. Partnership team member for strategic partnerships with shipyards, technology providers, research institutions, and other external partners. Prepare decarbonization and sustainability initiative input to department and corporate annual operating and strategic plans, in addition to newbuild project budgets. Work alongside other departments in the organization to drive the implementation of the Group’s decarbonization strategy. Prepare comprehensive reports, presentations, and briefing materials for executive leadership and board meetings.

 

Qualifications:

Manages budgets for any assigned consultant projects. Understanding of accounting rules for capital activities.

 

Knowledge and Skills:

Excellent interpersonal skills to communicate with all levels of employees and management in a multi-cultural environment, with business acumen and support for business decision-making. Strong organizational skills with proven ability to lead teams and significant cross-functional and cross-departmental initiatives. Strategic thinking and analytical skills; able to provide quality work with minimal direction and to comprehend and interpret complex data sets and information sources. Superior writing and presentation skills; able to provide quality work with minimal direction and deliver executive-level reports and presentations. Ability to clearly communicate complex technical and strategic information in a manner that is accessible to non-technical stakeholders. Demonstrated leadership and effective communication and interpersonal skills. Advanced knowledge of MS Office 365, (word, excel, powerpoint, etc.).

 

Work Environment:

Significant travel may be required, up to 30% of the time. Typical travel is about one week per month.  Longer term foreign assignments up to 1-2 years may be available based on department projects and objectives.
