Job Description:
Reporting to the Principal, Intellectual Property, the Manager, Patent Engineer will work with the members of OPI, Enterprise partners, technology experts, and innovation teams across TD to establish strategic opportunities to leverage TD's existing innovations and direct the capture of patentable innovations, including the underlying technologies, that support same.
An objective of the incumbent is to work with each business at the enterprise level to capture innovations across the enterprise that can maximize the value of TD's Innovation and Patent program. The incumbent must have a proven record of generating assets in their roles by way of generating patents and managing the strategic patent program across each partner.
Responsibilities will include:
Developing processes and artefacts to support the patent strategy for the enterprise and each major LOBs: patent portfolio management, freedom to operate.Work with OPI team members to develop deep level data analytics against TD's product and project portfolio to identify and realize new opportunities within the TD Patent program.Responsible for establishing and developing relationships with Leaders across the enterprise to continue to capture TD's innovation.Assist with maintaining TD's leadership position in the US and Canadian markets.Work with the Senior Manager, Patent Portfolio Management to ensure that we are capturing the right innovation to help manage the strategic vision of TD.Other Qualifications/ Skills and Experience
10+ years' experience in technology & software development5+ years' experience in patent filing activities2+ years' experience in Business or Product management2+ years' experience in a startup or focused entrepreneurial experienceProven ability to establish and execute large enterprise scale projects.Proven ability to generate and obtain approval of new Business opportunities.Proven experience as an innovator and creative thinker quick at connecting-the-dots and understanding the value opportunities in the innovation.Experience working closely with senior leadership, group managers, and IP professional to develop patent business opportunities and skills to present and influence all audiences.Understanding of data modelling, AI models, and presenting complex Data to a senior audience is a strong asset for this position.Experience in design thinking methodology, design thinking-based activities and awareness of patent process is an asset.Education RequirementsScience or technical undergraduate degree preferred, post graduate degree is an asset.
