This position works out of our Lake Bluff, IL location in the Public Affairs division.
The manager will play a pivotal role in helping formulate, execute, and sustain a global content strategy for Abbott’s nutrition business. The manager, based at Abbott's headquarters north of Chicago, is responsible for developing science-based storytelling to build and protect Abbott's thought leadership in nutrition. The manager must be able to think strategically and provide thoughtful counsel to a broad range of internal and external contacts across all levels of management. The candidate will bring deep expertise in translating complex nutrition science into consumer relevant stories as well as experience navigating the online search landscape and media environment. The candidate will have a track record of success in storytelling, social engagement and media relations.
The position will report directly to the Sr. Director, International Public Affairs for Abbott’s nutrition business. All division Public Affairs functions have a line reporting relationship to Corporate Public Affairs.
This position works with a broad range of internal and external constituencies across all levels of management and functions at both the corporate and division level, including R&D, marketing, legal, regulatory affairs, operations, quality, government affairs, and finance. The manager also maintains budget responsibility for content programming within their scope of work at the division level.
What You’ll Work On
Enhance Abbott’s global reputation across multiple external constituencies, spotlight the company and drive its thought leadership through developing compelling content—stories, videos, graphics, etc.Identify and create compelling storylines about Abbott’s leadership in nutrition science, which resonate with consumers, target media stakeholders and key internal stakeholders.Maintain relationships with key contacts through thoughtful, strategic engagement.Develop storytelling strategy for the business and oversee agency teams that assist with content development and paid media.Identify trends and insights among search and social media to leverage for storytelling opportunities.Establish and maintain a strong internal and external network to incorporate and lead adoption of best practice in the division and companywide. Work closely with other divisions to share best practices and learnings.Serve as a key liaison with Corporate Public Affairs to provide content as needed for corporate channels.Interface with various division and corporate teams, including R&D, government affairs, legal, finance, marketing, regulatory, medical, clinical and senior management.Identify and anticipate issues and work with appropriate functions to counsel management on reputation/business impact and influence business decision making process.Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Dietetics, Nutrition, or a related field. Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) credential preferred.Additionally, 6+ years of experience required in public relations, journalism, marketing, communications, or social/digital content, with a deep understanding of how to use external communications to enhance reputation.Preferred Qualifications
Experience in healthcare, technology and/or direct-to-consumer communications preferred.Consistent track record of excellent professional writing, communication and project management skills. Previous content experience/responsibilities include translating complicated topics into consumer-friendly stories, content strategy/relationships, social media and content program development.Strong experience in developing compelling content for product communications and developing key positioning, messaging, toolkits.Experience with search engine optimization (SEO) and understanding of the search landscape.Familiarity with using GenAI in the communication and content development setting.Experience working with media in placing media stories and managing relationships with lifestyle, consumer or business media.Experience working in a regulated environment.Able to achieve results while dealing with ambiguity, discretion, and a rapid pace of change.Experience working with and counseling senior management.Exhibits strong judgment and executive presence.Experience in crisis communication and exhibits anticipatory thinking.Proven experience in leading digital, social media and influencer projects to build brands.Learn more about our health and wellness benefits, which provide the security to help you and your family live full lives: www.abbottbenefits.com

The base pay for this position is $97,300.00 – $194,700.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
