Microbiology & Immunology department has an exciting opportunity for a full time Manager, Research Laboratory position. The incumbent oversees the day-to-day operations of the research laboratory, including maintenance and upkeep and ensuring an efficient and effective laboratory working environment.
CORE JOB FUNCTIONS
Formulates and implements short- and long-range goals for the operation of the laboratories.
Implements laboratory policies and procedures and coordinates with research staff on issues which impact laboratory services.
Serves as a liaison between investigators, research personnel, and staff to solve specific operating problems and improve technical activities.
Advises on technical procedures, techniques and equipment, and maintains conformance with specific operational standards.
Maintains quality checks on the safety of laboratories and insures maintenance of the facilities according to good laboratory practices.
Installs and maintains laboratory equipment in compliance with federal regulations.
Assures that the laboratory technicians are properly trained in standard operating procedures and equipment specific requirements.
Assists in the determination of fiscal requirements and in the preparation of budgetary recommendations.
Compiles and prepares reports and analyses, setting forth progress, adverse trends, and appropriate recommendations and conclusions.
Establishes and continuously assesses the effectiveness of the internal controls within the unit and compliance with University policies and procedures.
Ensures employees are trained on controls within the function and on University policy and procedures.

Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field
Minimum 5 years of relevant experience

Department Specific Functions
Responsible for maintaining laboratory animal protocols that includes updating and adding new reagents, techniques and procedures, as well as personnel.
Conducts all electronic and voice communications with DVR / IACUC personnel as proxy for the PI.
Responsible for generating budgets for all proposal transmissions. This involves identifying personnel, responsibilities for the grant and costs for animal, reagents, etc.
Ensures that all lab personnel complete their required on-line training, medical health requirements and any other necessary university regulatory forms.
Responsibilities include organizing lab meetings that involves organizing and arranging dates, collecting data slides to prepare accessible files using our Prometheus system and communicating with individuals who are scheduled to present at this weekly meeting.
Conduit for all lab members to arrange seamless access and use to shared university equipment and core facilities, for example, flow cytometers (Aurora, Symphony, Fortessa, etc.), analysis and imaging equipment (Incucyte, Keyance, etc.).
Contact for collaborators to inquire on to generate chimeric animals and is also called upon to perform injections for PIs who are using or developing in vivo mouse models.
Department Specific Qualifications
Master’s Degree in Public Health.
Experience in experimental laboratory
