The Hussman Institute has an exciting opportunity for a full time Manager, Research Support position. The incumbent provides grant application and management support to facilitate research. Further the Manager, Research Support oversees laboratory facility and research operations to ensure efficiency and compliance with applicable regulations.
CORE JOB FUNCTIONS
Oversees laboratory equipment purchase, use, maintenance, repair, and inventory.
Manages service contracts.
Trains laboratory staff on how to use laboratory equipment, laboratory techniques, and safety procedures.
Prepares laboratories for annual safety inspections.
Coordinates seminars and special activities in relation to research and laboratory safety.
Oversees the management of laboratory animals.
Collaborates with IT to maintain laboratory computers and servers running smoothly.
Assists with arrangement of laboratory guests, speakers, and recruitment visits.
Establishes and continuously assesses the effectiveness of the internal controls within the unit and compliance with University policies and procedures.
Ensures employees are trained on controls within the function and on University policy and procedures.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field required
Minimum 3 years of relevant experience
Department Specific Functions
The Manager, Research support will oversee the day to day operations of the HIHG Disease Modeling core including coordinating with DVR regarding the mouse cages and maintenance of them on BRB 2nd floor, preparing monthly invoicing information for core users, maintaining a scheduling program for users to reserve core time, troubleshooting issues with core equipment, and working with the HIHG lab manager when equipment maintenance needs arise and annual service contracts are required. He/she will be in charge of making all day to day decisions for the core and reviewing with the faculty member overseeing the core from a departmental level.
Additional Responsibilities Include:
• Serves as project liaison with collaborating research groups.
• Works with the research lab members and the IRB office on submission of new protocols.
• Coordinates routine activities of research studies including data collection, project evaluation, data analysis.
• Coordinates activities with the DVR department to have the animal core facility in regulation for IACUC inspections.
• Coordinates all Animal Core training activities within UM pre and post-graduate students, and other research lab groups.
• Development and implementation of workflows of the lab.
• Assists in the preparation of manuscripts for peer-reviewed scientific journals and submission.
• Ensures that project objectives are met, and results are documented.
