Manager, Servicing Appraisal QC

Summary:

The Manager of Servicing Appraisal Quality will report to the Vice President of Property Risk Management and oversee the company’s servicing appraisal quality control review process, property valuation controls, valuation review software and technology. This role will also assist the Vice President of Property Risk Management's oversight of servicing valuation compliance, policy, servicing appraisal provider quality, and third-party appraiser risks for the servicing division. This position requires effective management of servicing valuation quality control review activities, pipeline management, process management while identifying risks and improvements within those activities and develop solutions.  This includes activities such as mentoring and developing direct reports, collaborating with the Property Risk Director(s) responsible for valuation provider quality monitoring, default/loss mitigation management, company operations management and third-party vendors such as servicing valuation providers. This role will also assist with escalated review matters from the team as needed. Additionally, this position may also provide subject matter expertise for overall company valuation matters as requested by the Vice President of Property Risk Management and/or other senior leaders.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Exercises sound judgment in evaluating collateral risk & quality, associated policy, processes, procedures, and technology with an eye for continuous improvement.

Collaborates seamlessly with others to find common ground to accomplish goals.  Fosters strong relationships across multiple departments and vendors.

Has ownership of all department quality control processes and initiatives with ability to manage them under minimal supervision.  Proactively explores process and controls improvement with other stakeholders.

Manages and/or performs the quality control value credibility and compliance review of servicing appraisals for all residential property types according to investor requirements and the company’s requirements.

Lead and mentor direct reports to develop and enhance skills, improve processes and procedures, and enhance overall department efficiencies and effectiveness.

Setting and maintaining goals and objectives for each direct report and their respective workgroups and functional responsibilities to ensure maximum accomplishment of goals and standards.

Oversee monthly performance reporting for department goals and responsibilities.

Lead preparation of materials for senior management presentations/meetings (monthly business reviews).

Continually researches and stays informed of current and upcoming appraisal industry affairs, loan product appraisal guidelines, policies, procedures, and technology provided by the company, GSE/FHA/VA, and the risk assessment tools used to evaluate appraisal reports and value.

Identifies relevant trends, and delivers reporting, presentations and communication regarding the activities and outcomes of these functions to Freedom Mortgage senior management and/or staff, appraisal management company representatives, and/or other interested parties as directed by the VP of Property Risk Management.

Comply with all company policies and procedures.

Maintain regular and punctual attendance.

This position has direct reports. Manages staff and carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Strong technological proficiency is a must to excel in this position.

Intermediate to advanced proficiency in computers, Excel and Microsoft Office products and a paperless work environment is a must. Ability and willingness to adapt/learn/utilize multiple and/or new software applications.

Demonstrated ability to manage projects, pipelines and batches of work to completion by leading a team with attention to detail, goal setting, accountability, monitoring, and continuous improvement.

Ability to aggregate raw data and identify trends and/or risks while applying strong analytical and decision making/problem solving skills to mitigate risks identified.

Excellent interpersonal, organizational, prioritization and time management skills to deliver results with minimal supervision.

Education and/or Experience:

High School Diploma or GED Required; 4 Year BA or BS preferred.

At least 8 years of experience providing leadership, direction, and coaching to ensure direct reports validate appraisal reports comply with USPAP, met investor requirements, are not discriminatory, and value was credibly supported utilizing industry recognized methods.

Current or recently expired appraisal license required. At least 8 years appraisal review experience with a servicer, financial institution, governmental agency, and/or appraisal management company.

At least 8 years of experience managing a program, process, initiative, or team within the appraisal industry.

Licensed/Certified Appraiser (current or recently expired) with at least 8 years appraisal review experience with a servicer, large financial institution, governmental agency, and/or top 10 sized appraisal management company is preferred.

At least 5 years’ experience in managing the completion or review of appraisals for servicing, default, and/or foreclosure is preferred.

At least 1 year experience using Collateral Underwriter to assess valuation credibility and support is preferred.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

Active or recently expired State Licensed or Certified Appraiser.

Problems and issues faced are moderately complex. Problems typically impact own department and maybe other departments. Problems are typically solved through drawing from prior experience and analysis of issues.
