Compensation

Compensation includes a base salary of $108,800.00 - $181,400.00. The base salary may vary within the anticipated base pay range based on factors such as the ultimate location of the position and the selected candidate’s knowledge, skills, and abilities. Position may be eligible for additional compensation that may include an incentive program.

Job Description

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution is seeking a Manager of Strategic Finance to join the company’s highly visible Strategy & Finance function. As the AJC transforms from a storied newspaper into a modern media company, this position will provide financial and strategic support to ensure that investments into the business are fulfilling the desired objective of delivering a world class product and scaling subscribers. In addition, this person will support the Director, Business Development & Strategy on ad hoc strategic initiatives that include assessing new business opportunities, performing financial modeling and due diligence for strategic partnerships, and operationalizing nascent functional areas.

This is a newly established, highly visible, role that enables leadership to drive the strategic direction of the company. We are looking for a self starter who can think quantitatively yet qualitatively, is passionate about media, and has the ability to effectively collaborate across departments and seniority levels.

The Work

Support the strategy function of the AJC, balancing qualitative rationale with quantitative analysis to ensure the AJC is making the best business decisions that ladder up to key strategic initiatives.

Owns finance-based strategic decisioning projects with the use of scenario modeling and ROI analysis, particularly within key investment areas.Collaborates with the Financial Planning and Analysis team to:Perform assessments of existing business lines; in conjunction with operational teams, assess, plan, implement and monitor identified optimization measuresDevelop complex models related to key investment areas such as digital subscriber forecasting, advertising sales and print operationsRedesign recurring deliverables and internal tracking documents to present easy-to-follow financials coupled with relevant business narratives to seamlessly and holistically tell one story on performanceServe as financial business partner within strategic and operational discussions to ensure that financial impact is always factored in as a component when establishing an organizational perspectiveEvaluate and recommend inorganic growth initiatives such as expansion into new business lines, strategic partnerships, and tuck in acquisitionsPresent recommendations on expanding into new business lines or areas by utilizing research and data, industry comparables, financial analyses, scenario modeling, internal and external interviewsPartner with operational decision makers, as well as with senior leaders, as an internal consultant to author strategic plans for major initiatives supported by significant analysis and research within a short to medium term time frameOperationalize nascent ventures in conjunction with operations and other relevant departments to develop tactical strategy, identify required resourcing and hiring needs, and run initial phases of operations if needed

Required Experience

Bachelor's degree with 6+ years of finance and strategy/consulting experience. A candidate may also have a Master's Degree with 4+ years of experience or a Ph.D. with 1+ year of relevant experience.1+ years in a management or leadership roleStrong financial analysis and modeling skillsExpertise in working within Excel and PowerPointComfortable with data, analytics and research
 

Ideal Experience

Prior experience in corporate development, corporate finance, investment banking, consulting, or advisory servicesIn-house media company experienceSolid understanding of the news industryWorking knowledge of digital subscription services
