The Job:  

Stanley Black & Decker’s (SBD) Global Tools and Storage business is currently seeking candidates for a Strategic Insights Manager based in Towson, MD (or remote location in the Eastern Time Zone).  The Strategic Insights Manager, Global Tools and Storage will drive global business results by influencing portfolio and brand strategy, commercialization, and point of purchase execution via a constant focus on the consumer and marketplace.  You’ll get to:

Directly influence the future of the CRAFTSMAN and STANLEY brands on a global scale:

Cultivate richer insights that bring internal and external stakeholders closer to our “end user”Influence how we communicate our brands through creative campaigns, copy, digital assets and packagingGuide New Product Development (ideation and concept testing) and current portfolio strategies

Build and contribute to foundational understanding of the Global Tools and Storage categories, the SBD suite of brands, and the point-of-sale environment:

Lead acquisition and synthesis of insights from different sources of data (e.g. Point of Sale, shopper panels, social listening, as well as primary research)Regularly create and/or take part in discovery activities with end users to understand the why behind their behaviorBuild and share compelling stories with business leaders that provide insight to how end user behaviors are influencing our categories

Optimize learning and research opportunities to meet and impact business needs:

Create and implement strategic learning plans to address the most critical questions for the businessGuide specific research development and execution using expertise in a variety of research methodsIdentify innovative tools and new ways of working to deliver more impactful results

Influence decisions and evolve thinking of cross-functional leadership:

Synthesize disparate data and transform it into actionable insightsMake recommendations grounded in consumer and market knowledge and guided by a broader understanding of the businessConsult on cross business unit initiatives

Oversee research and data supplier relationships:

Help vet agency and vendor partner capabilities for regional and global scaleSelect suppliers to partner with and share experiences openly with the Insights team

Help us build and grow our Global Insights team:

Seek out and share knowledge on emerging research and analytic methodologies Build advocacy for sustained organizational investment in end user and shopper understanding Coach and mentor more junior team members  

The Person:  

You’re a creative problem solver who loves to learn and grow, be acknowledged for your valuable contributions, and feel like an integral team member. You’re not intimidated by technology or innovation. You’re willing to program your own surveys and get knee-deep in data, but can easily pivot to providing thought leadership for a specific category or end user target. You also have:

Bachelor’s Degree, MBA a plus5+ years of professional experience in Consumer or Market Insights and Analytics, Brand or Shopper Marketing, and/or Business StrategyExperience building holistic learning plans that integrate data, trends, and primary researchExperience blending quantitative & qualitative learning for a clear story and action planProven ability to influence a diverse set of stakeholders, including external partnersAbility to think and act strategically Ability to “connect the dots” and drive toward bigger picture insightsAbility to show complex information in a simple, visual way that drives understandingProficiency in programming tools like Qualtrics and analytics tools like Tableau or DisplayrProficiency with syndicated data sources like Numerator, IRI or NielsenExcellent communication skills

The base pay range for this position in Maryland  is $74,000-$133,000 per year. Pay is based on market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. A sign-on payment may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered.
