The Job:  

As a Manager, Strategic Sourcing-Battery Cells, you will be a hybrid employee, reporting to the Director of Battery Sourcing.

This position leads the sourcing strategy for Lithium-ion rechargeable batteries for Global Electrical Systems in Stanley Black & Decker representing over $500M in spend.  Devising and managing the sourcing strategy of this category is the primary goal for this position along with managing a few very critical supplier relationships of the highest strategic importance to the company. The strategy will focus on security of supply, productivity initiatives, working capital, harvesting the latest technology from the supply base and other balanced score card initiatives to sustain a competitive edge.  This individual will also lead/tailor Sourcing Battery strategies to the business needs of the key business units; power tools, outdoor power equipment and floor care products. 

This leader must work effectively with cross functional teams including Engineering, Finance, Supply Chain, Marketing, and Operations to achieve both strategic and tactical goals. This role will ensure that the battery supplier portfolio meets or exceeds service level and quality expectations of the business as well as continue to drive major productivity initiatives. The Manager is responsible for staying current with emerging technology trends/opportunities and ensures that the business leaders are advised accordingly.    Further, this individual will be responsible for leveraging our regional Sourcing groups for ongoing supplier development and keeping a strong focus on emerging market opportunities.  

Contract negotiation and supplier management are vital facets of the job along with understanding payment and shipping terms and working capital implications.  Ability to find effective alternatives to cost pressures, including redesign opportunities, substitutions and new supplier development is a critical part of the role.  As Stanley Black & Decker continues to grow, this position will support integrating and driving synergies for acquisitions with battery content.

The ideal candidate will have 5+ years’ experience in managing strategic business relationships, category leadership, purchasing and/or project management.

You’ll get to:  

Provide category leadership and integrate with strategic business unit leadership and Stanley Black & Decker strategic sourcing function leaders to achieve business goals and objectives as related to Sourcing, Transportation, and Supplier Management. Manage business relationships with critical long term +$100M supply partners, ensuring mindshare for SBD, and excellent supplier performance.Identify and communicate risks and coordinate its mitigation plans.Effectively lead and communicate at all levels within the company and with stakeholders from marketing, engineering, operations, finance, and executive leadership.Implement corporate policies and initiatives such as but not limited to supplier diversity, supplier risk, data management, etc.Provide support and leadership to ensure global sourcing synergy projects are accomplished.Develop and execute global sourcing strategy to create and implement a world class supply base that meets the criteria as defined by the business. Criteria include the following:  quality, on-time delivery, support inventory programs, offer quick lead times, competitive cost, collaboration on innovation, and conformity to our payment terms.Ensure that product costing and sourcing decisions are based upon the total cost of sourced items (Total Cost of Ownership - TCO) for example: currency exchange, freight, non-value-added activities, and consideration for localized or imported sourcing.Use sourcing tools within spend analytics, contract management, productivity tracking, linear performance price analysis, etc to help drive category performance.Work with engineering, marketing, suppliers and others to identify and drive productivity opportunities.Develop and maintain broad knowledge of worldwide market trends relevant to batteries.Work closely with cross-functional teams (Engineering, Marketing, Operations, Finance, Legal, Logistics, etc) across the company to drive success.

Bachelor’s degree required- Engineering or Business/Finance highly preferredMaster’s degree preferred5+ years of related experienceConsumer Products industry experience preferredElectronics/Electrical industry experience preferredProficiency in Korean or Chinese language is helpful, but not required.Computer skills (MS Office)Excellent interpersonal, communication and negotiation skillsBroad Supply Chain and TCO experience.Strong sourcing, supply management, and negotiation skills necessary.Demonstrated success in Working Capital (inventory, terms) and Leadtime initiatives.International business experience.Lean manufacturing experience preferred.Effective leadership and facilitation demonstrated.Makes and meets commitments.

The base pay range for this position in Maryland is $74,000-$133,000. Pay is based on market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. A sign-on payment may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered.
