Job Summary
The Systems Engineering Manager manages the planning, engineering and day-to-day support of EB’s systems infrastructure. He/She will be responsible for overseeing a high performing team and will prioritize and manage implementation of solutions for infrastructure provisioning and automation. This includes analysis of current solutions for improvement, development, and adoption of best practices for infrastructure delivery, as well as collaboration with product, development and enterprise technology teams. The Systems Engineering Manager will drive the reliability, security and efficiency of our on-premises systems, building infrastructure and reducing work through automation while also possessing the skills and foresight needed for future migrations to cloud. This position requires a hands-on leader with a blend of cloud migration experience and a history of running modern SaaS applications, on-premise and public cloud infrastructure.
Your Role & Responsibilities
Take an active role in building, mentoring and growing a high-performing team, encouraging a culture of continuous improvement and professional growth Provide technical leadership and strategic thinking skills with the ability to proactively drive and deliver technical solutions that scale across various technical teams Collaborate across EB technology teams (product, engineering, security) to architect and implement secure, scalable and reliable on-prem and cloud solutions Responsible for ensuring operational readiness for launching workloads into private (on-prem) and public cloud environments; assess and define any application integration requirements; implement infrastructure best practices in areas such as performance, scalability, security and availability Provide input to resource planning, cost estimations, budget development and cost control Coordinate with cross-functional teams to align resources and deliverables; drive Agile Scrum best practices, including daily standups, sprint backlog and reviews Track and report on KPI’s and trends to management Manage patching and security vulnerability remediations Collaborate in the adoption of a cloud migration strategy; develop the plan and drive the migration Work with cloud teams on the deployment of new cloud technology implementations, monitoring and optimization of existing equipment Keep up to date on systems technology best practices and industry trends; drive adoption of best practices and governance Participate in the design and implementation of High Availability and Disaster Recovery Implement effective monitoring, support systems & procedures to ensure system stability & scalability Achieve operational excellence of infrastructure through proactive monitoring and automation Document the company’s existing systems architecture and technology portfolio; make recommendations for improvements and/or alternatives Develop and execute test plans to check infrastructure and systems technical performance; report on findings and make recommendations for improvement Develop and manage a systems capacity plan Participate in on-call/PagerDuty rotation
Preferred Education, Skills, and Experience
8+ years of relevant, hands-on systems administration and engineering experience across on-prem and cloud (AWS, Azure) environments 3+ years’ experience leading delivery teams, team building, team management and providing leadership and guiding team to meet expectations Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related technical experience preferred Experience with hybrid environments (public cloud, private cloud and on-prem) and leading teams spread across environments Strong Microsoft Windows Server 2019+ experience required; Linux experience a huge plus Solid understanding and experience with networking, VMware vSphere 6.x+ and Dell/EMC enterprise storage technologies (Dell PowerStore) required Preferred certifications in key technologies (e.g., MCSE, Server+, CCNA, Linux, VMware). Azure and AWS Certifications are a major plus Demonstrated proficiency in scripting languages (PowerShell, Python) to automate processes and improve system configurations Expertise in Azure AD/Entra, Azure SSO, Azure DevOps, Windows Active Directory, DNS, GPO, PowerShell, ADFS, IIS, Remote Desktop Services, and PKI/MS Certificate Services within an on-premises context Experience migrating from on-prem data centers to the cloud (AWS preferred) Experience in AWS cloud technologies, services, and best practices required Proven experience in working with and supporting AWS infrastructure via IAC, including deep knowledge of automation scripts and tools (i.e., Terraform) Proven track record in incident management, process improvement, and automation within on-prem data center contexts Experience in setting up and managing advanced monitoring and alerting systems, such as DataDog, New Relic, Dynatrace, PagerDuty, etc. Experience with Atlassian Confluence and Jira strongly preferred Excellent problem-solving capabilities, strong communication, and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with various teams and stakeholders Experience implementing HA and DR strategies in on-prem and AWS environments Strong knowledge of Security, Identity and Compliance Project planning and management experience Superior written and oral communication skills Excellent architecture and technical support documentation skills Strong interpersonal and consultative skills Ability to conduct research into emerging technologies and trends, standards, and products as needed Ability to present ideas in user-friendly language Able to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment
The anticipated annual base salary for this position in the US is $155,000 to $185,000. This range does not include any other compensation components or other benefits that an individual may be eligible for. The actual base salary offered depends on a variety of factors, which may include as applicable, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job.
