Job Description

The US GST team is seeking a Manager, System Engineering & Reliability to support the system engineering and operations technologies for the NBC Digital Network Operations Center. This position manages a team of engineers that supports the digital facility, and related teams to bridge workflow between organizations including traditional broadcast and digital groups. This position will be responsible for proper communication, reliability and resiliency of our systems, networking and associated hardware operations. The role will work closely with the Director of System Engineering to plan, support and interact with digital partners and manage the support team and the maintenance of systems.

Primary Responsibilities

Lead the management team, operations, and support personnel to ensure the availability and reliability of NBCUniversal assets distributed to Peacock App and the end consumerManage on-site presence and escalation within digital operations, broadcast operations and transmission on all events in a tiered fashion for 24/7/365 operationsEnsure the 24/7 Engineering team is staffed and scheduled appropriately for multi-tier eventsExecutes engineering designs, plans, maintenance and other activities that result in a safe and reliable Digital operationResponsible for the configuration, maintaining and troubleshooting of all digital systems to ensure maximum reliability for all productions. Must have the ability to design, document and manage new technical systems as well as workflows.Foster an inclusive and collaborative work environment across teams and propositionsCoach, mentor, lead, train, and manage a diverse team for overall organizational successOperational knowledge of scheduling automation systems and full end to end digital workflow from signal acquisition to end user delivery, baseband a/v processing and signal flowAid in design, documentation and management of new technical systems (hardware and software based) as well as associated workflowsDocument and establish standard operating procedures, as well as best practicesTrack all device and related support data accurately and in a timely manner

QualificationsMinimum three (3) years’ experience leading a support team to effective issue resolutionComponent level and/or broadcast television engineering maintenance experience required with minimum experience of four (4) years in a broadcast environmentMust have knowledge of fiber optic technologies and coax video transport, MPEG 2 and 4 encoding and decoding, ASI, MPEG over IP, Dolby-E, MATV/ IPTV, multi-way processors, standards converters, matrix-based communications systems, and plant routing systemsKnowledge of HLS, DASH, h.264, h.265 technologies and systems for OTT delivery including metadata standards (i.e SCTE)Ability to create and comprehend signal flow documents (CAD) as well as systems level troubleshooting.Must be proficient with broadcast test and measurement equipment such as Leader Waveform Monitors, in addition to software such as MS Office, Visio, and AutoCAD.Excellent communicator able to manage highly technical operations teams while interfacing with Software Engineering, Operations, Live Production, and third party vendors.Excellent interpersonal skills.Position requires a cool, level headed individual who works well under the pressures of “live” television.Ability to prepare and present written and oral communications of complex technical natureAbility to escalate critical transmission problems calmly, quickly and efficiently in order to minimize disruptions and ability to work around failures to mitigate interruptions to Live productionsMay have night and weekend assignmentsDemonstrated ability to analyze, compile and deliver regular clear, concise reports detailing system performance and reliabilityStrong understanding of network infrastructure, topologies and protocols including IP Video technologiesAbility to manage an engineering team, capable of supporting many competing projects and priorities simultaneouslyFamiliar with project management software and methodologies
