Manager, Technical Documentation, Selling Partner Developer Services

Amazon Selling Partner Developer Services is seeking a documentation manager to lead our team of programmer writers and technical writers that are re-defining developer and builder content. As the Documentation Manager, you are responsible for hiring, developing and growing the writers on your team. Our documentation team plays a vital role in providing thought leadership internally to protect and improve Developer Success. In this role, you will be advocating for developer content, exploring innovative solutions to the complex issues developers face, and leading our technical writing team to deliver high-quality technical documentation. As a Technical Leader, you set the standard for excellence for documentation, ensuring that we deliver technically accurate, well-written, simple, and customer-focused content and examples. You will deliver on goals for documenting new features and services, as well as improve the quality of existing documentation. The ideal candidate has excellent communication skills and a technical background that enables them to collaborate effectively with Software Engineers, Solutions Architects, Product Managers, and Technical Program Managers; outstanding people management skills to hire and develop the best and a demonstrated ability to deliver high-quality technical content. Key job responsibilities * Lead and develop team of programmer/technical writers and editors. * Drive the development and produce documentation for APIs according to agile methodologies * Define the overall content strategy across API content * Define plans for writing projects and lead a team of writers in completing those plans * Assess customer feedback on adoption of our data products and adjust the direction of the writing team accordingly * Lead engagements and roadmap for documentation authoring tools and platforms used by writers. * Influence the product roadmap of cross-team collaborative tools and workflows to provide an ideal development experience. About the team The vision of Selling Partner Developer Services API Release and Globalization team is to externalize quality, global API data products with speed and scale via a self-service experience supported by comprehensive, accessible multi-language documentation to simplify building, migrating to, or integrating with Amazon APIs. Basic Qualifications * A minimum of 2 years in a management role leading a team of writers on one or more customer-focused software products or services. * A minimum of 5 years in a technical writing or lead writing role * Proven experience designing and delivering developer-oriented documentation * Experience with Git, GitHub, Markdown, authoring tools, repository management and source control systems * Experience working directly with development teams, engineers, and subject matter experts * Experience working in an Agile environment * Experience managing a work queue in an issue tracking system (Jira, Team Foundation Server, etc) Preferred Qualifications * Degree in Technical Writing, English, Computer Science, or a related field * Knowledge of web analytics and reporting * Experience maintaining a style guide * Familiarity with Open API and Swagger specifications * A working knowledge of a programming language, such as Java, C#, Python, etc. Amazon is committed to a diverse and inclusive workplace. Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $124,600/year in our lowest geographic market up to $215,400/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
