Overview of the Manager Technology, Software Engineering – Logistics role

The Manager Technology, Software Engineering - Logistics plays a key role in leading the software engineering technical direction and integration of logistics solutions. The Manager collaborates with various levels of stakeholders on architecture, requirements, and implementation of system solutions to enable business features quickly in a rapidly changing environment. We are currently in a very exciting time where we are undergoing a lot of technological transformation in our warehouse management and logistic space and are looking for a leader who is passionate and eager to drive these initiatives.

 

Responsibilities

Lead all project/program delivery in the warehouse management and logistic space. Organize the work and teams for efficient delivery. Attract, select and retain critical talent for the team. Coach team members in coding and development/ Implementation skills Provide clear, specific goals to the team and communicate performance feedback regularly through regular 1-1 meetings and performance reviews Participate as a member of the engineering leadership in setting and executing strategy for the team Facilitate Communities-of-Practice in critical technologies Facilitate and encourage continuous education efforts for your team both on key technologies and also the Williams-Sonoma business domain Estimate development effort, perform resource allocation, and plan implementations and system rollouts Assist in continually improving the Engineering organization and making it a great place to work Develop a solid understanding of critical systems and processes Guide and counsel engineers on Williams-Sonoma Inc. policies and procedures Performs other duties as required Partner with the Product Management team to define an effective backlog and execute to that backlog. Lead overall team in the innovation of technology and business concepts and drive the test and learn mindset across the team. Lead the implementation of application services, frameworks, automation, and infrastructure that the departments, teams, and their projects depend upon. Evolve platform maturity in automation, operations, stability, and support. Maintain awareness of industry trends and evaluate the applicability of new software tools to platform development.

Criteria

Bachelor's degree -- or foreign equivalent -- in Computer Science, Engineering or related field, or eight years of progressively responsible experience in software development Intermediate knowledge of the business systems and technologies within the Logistics domain with a specific focus preferably on Manhattan WMOS systems. Demonstrated experience leading successful development efforts Experience inspiring and motivating people to fulfill their potential Ability to promote teamwork and establish a foundation of trust among team members Experience with CI (Continuous Integration) methodologies and tools, including automated testing tools Highly knowledgeable and skilled in software development practices and techniques including but not limited to: Source code management -- branching, tagging, and merging Code reviews and adherence to standards Strong data management principles, around data architecture, modeling/design, data quality, security, data organization, and operations. Must have experience with Distribution Centers and Warehouse Management Systems Experience in Transportation Management systems, Manhattan Slotting, and Labor Management systems is nice to have. Experience implementing WM systems into new DCs and/or retrofitting WM systems into existing DCs. (preferably Manhattan WMOS) Experience with Proship or other similar rate shopping tools is a big plus. Communication Skills: Has excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex technical information of the platform in a clear and concise manner to executives and non-technical leaders. Must have excellent presentation skills to a wide spectrum of audience types (Sr. Executives to Technical Architects and Developers). Experience building teams for services gateway and CI/CD pipelines from scratch. Expert skills in several of the following: Object-oriented design and development Java technologies - J2EE and the Spring framework Web Information Architecture, including REST principles Service-oriented designs and techniques (Web Services, JSON) Database storage and interaction (SQL, Oracle, JDBC, "no-SQL" technologies) Spark, Cassandra, Kafka, Kibana Ability to review and critique proposed designs and offer thoughtful feedback in a collegial fashion Skilled in writing and presenting -- able to craft needed messages, so they are clearly expressed and easily understood. Has 1+ years of supervisory experience and 8+ yrs experience in software development/ Implementation and delivery. Preferred Location:  Phoenix/Glendale Arizona
