Purpose

 

Contributes to the overall success of GBM Product Control in the U.S. ensuring specific individual goals, plans, initiatives are executed / delivered in support of the team’s business strategies and objectives.  Ensures all activities conducted follow governing regulations, internal policies, and procedures.

 

Reporting to the Senior Manager, US Equities Product Control, the incumbent is primarily responsible for daily P&L reporting, daily/monthly accounting, balancing and reconciliations for US Equities. Successful candidate will also have Convertible Bond and Options product knowledge.

 

The incumbent will interact with several functional areas within and outside of Product Control. The key internal relationships outside of Product Control will be with the Equities Front Office, Operations, Finance, Risk Management, and Change Technology teams.

 

What You’ll Do 

 

Work closely with front office trading personnel in producing daily, weekly, and monthly PL results and analysis. Generate ad-hoc reports to satisfy various financial and regulatory reporting requirements.  Investigate and resolve P&L discrepancies arising from incorrect booking of trades or system errors.  Ensure compliance with internal and external audits. Ensures that the accounts and financial records of US Equities’ businesses are being maintained according to International Financial Reporting Standards, policies and procedures set by Scotiabank Executive Offices and the local regulators.  This includes preparing detailed Balance Sheet and PL schedules and reconciliations. Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions. Perform Independent Price Valuation (IPV). Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, AML/ATF risk and conduct risk, including but not limited to responsibilities under the Operational Risk Management Framework, Regulatory Compliance Risk Management Framework, AML/ATF Global Handbook, and the Guidelines for Business Conduct. 


What You’ll Bring 

 

Prior experience in Product Control, Financial Reporting or Audit is preferred.  Prior experience in Balance Sheet and PL attestation & reconciliation is preferred. This includes accounting entry preparation.  In depth experience with Alteryx, PowerBI, Peoplesoft, Excel & Oracle Financial Accounting Hub
