Are you an experienced UX designer ready to take the next step into people management while continuing to shape great user experiences? Medpace’s Software team is seeking a UX Design Manager to help modernize internally built software tools supporting human clinical trials and research.

 

This is a great opportunity for a senior-level UX designer or design lead who has led projects, influenced design decisions, and is ready to step into a management role. You’ll have the chance to build leadership experience while staying hands-on with design, user research, and strategy. Your role will involve mentoring designers, improving design processes, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to create intuitive, user-centered solutions for complex workflows within a regulated environment.

Responsibilities

 

Team Management role, coaching/mentoring, and supporting a growing early career UX team through hands-on design work.Lead UX projects from concept to launch, collaborating with product owners/BAs, engineers, and stakeholders.Advocate for user-centered design by conducting user research, usability testing, and data-driven design improvements.Develop and refine design systems to create consistency across products.Create wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity mockups, ensuring scalable and accessible designs.Help shape the UX and broader product portfolio strategy, using your experience to establish best practices and identify opportunities for improvement.Facilitate cross-functional collaboration, ensuring design solutions align with business goals and technical requirements.Grow your leadership skills, gaining experience in hiring, coaching, and team development. Qualifications 10+ years of experience in UX, Product, or Interaction DesignBachelor’s degree or higher in Visual Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Industrial Design, or related fieldPrior experience as a lead designer on projects, with some exposure to mentoring or guiding other designersStrong ability to advocate for UX design: capable of marketing and selling the importance of UX to non-design stakeholders, from software engineers to executivesA strong portfolio showcasing UX processes, challenges, and delivered outcomes.Experience conducting user research, usability testing, and iterative design improvements.Proficiency in design tools like Figma, Sketch, or similar platformsStrong collaboration skills and the ability to communicate design decisions to technical and non-technical stakeholdersFamiliarity with Agile and Lean UX methodologiesWhy This Role?Step into management with support: gain leadership experience while contributing via your design skills.Work on meaningful products: help create tools that improve clinical research and healthcare outcomes.Collaborative culture: work closely with software developers, product owners, and clinical operations leaders.Room for growth: mature a UX team and define best practices for an evolving design function.
