Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is currently seeking a Manager 3 – Propulsion Engineering to join our Air-Breathing Propulsion Engineering group at the Palm Beach Gardens, Florida location.
The Northrop Grumman Propulsion Systems and Controls (PS&C) location in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, designs and develops air-breathing solutions for various military applications, include hypersonic missions. This small site of approximately 80 personnel is comprised mostly of engineering professionals that also support the manufacturing, test, and delivery of such propulsion systems which occur at our other campus locations in Elkton, Maryland and Ronkonkoma, New York, as well as through external suppliers and customers.

Job Description
As the leader of the Air-Breathing Propulsion engineering group, consisting of approximately 70 engineers and managers, you will be responsible for developing the strategy to support technology development, product innovation, market assessment, and growth of the Advanced Propulsion & Systems (AP&S) market segment of the Propulsion Systems & Controls business unit. This position requires technical expertise in air-breathing propulsion systems, proven product development experience with Department of Defense applications, experience with building customer relations, and a track record of successfully working with other functions and upper management in a team environment to accomplish business objectives.
Job Responsibilities
Managing execution of all air-breathing propulsion efforts, with focus on technical excellence and balancing innovation, performance, risk, manufacturability/testability, schedule and cost objectives. Working with Program Management and Business Development functions to develop and execute a strategic plan to continue the growth in this market area, including technical and programmatic approaches.Creating a technical roadmap to identify key technology opportunities to drive innovation and development of new products and technologies.Ensuring that we are appropriately staffed with the right talent and skill levels across the technical staff to support the programs and department budgets.Mentoring and motivating to ensure a high performing team. This includes use of development plans, stretch assignments, 1:1 meetings and feedback, training, recognition, promotion/equity and other methods to develop and reward our engineering talent.Setting and promoting high standards for quality and safety through peer reviews, process control, and performance feedback. Ensure compliance with all command media processes and standards in our technical solutions.Taking a leadership role in solving significant technical issues. Working with chief/lead engineers, develop plans to resolve the issues, communicate the plan, ensure appropriate technical resources are applied, and advise senior management on progress.Maintaining state-of-the-art knowledge with respect to technology and engineering best practices through education, conferences, and trade shows.Representing and communicating Northrop Grumman technical capabilities and technologies to build relationships with internal and external customers.Supporting program technical reviews, proposal reviews, or other technical meetings.Success in this role will require sound scientific/technical judgment, innovative thinking and excellent interpersonal/management skills in order to plan, motivate and accomplish goals through your staff.

Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and 15 Years of experience or 13 years of experience with a Master’s degree in EngineeringAbility to obtain a DoD Secret Clearance which requires US Citizenship as a prerequisiteStrong technical background in air-breathing propulsion design, development, manufacturing, integration, and testingMust be a self-starter and possess the skills necessary to lead and motivate others, achieving results in a timely manner5+ years of project or people leadership experienceExcellent oral, presentation, and written communication skills to all levels of an organizationAbility to travel (10-20%) to meet manufacturing team, current/potential customers, suppliers, and company leadershipPreferred Qualifications:
Advanced degree in EngineeringExtensive experience with design, development, and testing of air-breathing propulsion systemsActive Secret or Top Secret ClearanceExperience in capturing new business through cross-functional collaborationDemonstrated effectiveness in managing internal customer relationships, prioritization, and delegationAbility to balance people management, technical/process management, and strategic/new business aspects of this positionThis position falls under a Federal Explosives License issued by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) for this location. Candidates hired into this role will be required to complete and submit an Employee Possessor Questionnaire to ATF for approval to be a possessor.
Salary Range: $170,000.00 - $255,000.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
