The Associate Scientist Downstream Purification will be part of the Downstream Purification (DSP) team of the Flu Baculo Drug Substance division in Manufacturing Science and Technology (MSAT)-Vaccine.

MSAT acts as a crucial link between R&D and Manufacturing facilities, playing a vital role in securing the present portfolio and delivering future launches of high-quality and innovative drugs and vaccines. MSAT fulfils an important function by providing day-to-day manufacturing support, focusing on process aspects, effective life-cycle managements (LCM) strategies, process robustness enhancement, and yield improvement to optimize performance and costs.

The Associate Scientist will work in a laboratory setting to support:

Seasonal strain changes for Influenza Flublok Vaccine

Process robustness and yield improvement projects

Manufacturing support

Process validation

Tech transfer

Main Responsibilities:

Execution of development work as outlined by Senior Scientist and in collaboration with others on projects.

Execution of small-scale recombinant protein purification experiments using chromatography (AKTA platform), filtration, clarification/ depth filtration, column packing, and tangential flow filtration independently based on expert knowledge of protein purification and analysis with an in depth understanding of all modes of chromatography. Sample testing (BCA, SDS-PAGE/Western Blot, Purity, SRID, etc.).

Makes detailed observations, analyzes data and interprets results.  Exercise technical discretion in the design, execution and interpretation of experiments that contribute to projects. 

Commercial manufacturing shop-floor support as needed.

Preparation of technical reports, summaries, protocols, and quantitative analyses. 

Follows documented procedures.

Participates in general lab maintenance.

About You

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor’s in Biology, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, or similar discipline with 2 years' experience in pharmaceutical industry.

Master's in Biology, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, or similar discipline with no prior experience needed in the pharmaceutical industry.

Preferred Qualifications:

Operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting chromatography workstations and process skids

SDS PAGE and Western Blot, SRID, BCA, Purity, etc.

Knowledge and experience working with automated high throughput process development equipment.

Working knowledge of scientific principles and concerns

Manufacturing support systems including change controls, deviations, CAPA, root cause analysis, etc.

Good documentation practices (GDP). Experience in writing standard operating procedures (SOP), batch records, and reports

Soft Skills:

Proactively anticipates and effectively communicates successes, constraints, solutions, and actions for resolution.

Fosters relationships with partners, experts from other functions and customers to achieve technical objectives.

Perform trouble shooting as required and supports staff.

Behaves according to company values and competencies.

Good communication and social skills.

Excellent team member.
