How will you make an impact in this role?
This position is responsible for supporting the effective and efficient execution and improvement of a Compliance program consistent with Spanish regulatory requirements and American Express Compliance programs and standards, in support of the American Express business in Spain.
Reporting to the Spain Market Compliance Officer, this role will be responsible for supporting all operational aspects of the market compliance program. This role also plays a key role in ensuring the Compliance program is executed through an effective partnership with other groups such as GCO, Operational Excellence, CFR & LOB.
The incumbent will identify applicable requirements and regulations, devise and implement policies and procedures to achieve compliance with legal obligations and Company policy, assure that appropriate compliance-related training programs are conducted, provide guidance to the business as necessary on compliance issues, take appropriate steps to assure that compliance issues are regularly monitored and audited, provide such administrative oversight as is necessary to effectively document compliance activity, deal appropriately with other staff and control functions, assist in the management of regulatory relationships and perform other tasks as requested or necessary from time to time to support the effective running of the compliance program.
Key responsibilities
Keep up to date working knowledge of applicable laws, regulations and company policies to identify company’s legal oblig ations based on GCO´s Global Legal Inventory for the market. Assist Spain MCO to implement policies and procedures to achieve compliance with legal obligations. Develop, as necessary, local procedures to adapt Company policies to local needs and satisfy local requirements. Participate in all pertinent strategic initiatives, including acquisitions, new product or business development, technology projects, or restructuring changes to ensure legal and compliance requirements are incorporated into business processes. Review and monitor (leveraging resources of other professionals, as appropriate) activities of the Operations and /or Business Units to assess adherence to compliance standards and report deficiencies to management for corrective actions. Continually evaluate the compliance program, in coordination with Spain MCO, to determine its effectiveness and devise solutions to new legal and regulatory developments, being supported by the Compliance Testing and Monitoring Program for the market. Provide compliance advice and expertise to management regarding applicable laws, regulations and company policy and procedures to achieve compliance with legal obligations and promote ongoing readiness. Maintain accurate and complete data or other records of compliance activities, in a form to be agreed with the Compliance Officer, so that compliance-related information is readily available in a comprehensive and uniform manner. Provide periodic or other reports to the Compliance Officer upon request. As necessary, participate in or sponsor the development of compliance related training and assist management in promoting staff awareness of compliance. Promote dissemination of compliance information, encourage behaviors that integrate compliance values into business practices and continuously reinforce to all staff personal responsibility for compliance. Timely escalation of identified compliance risks to Market Compliance Officer. Support as necessary in the preparation of internal and regulatory reports. Take appropriate steps to assure that compliance issues are regularly monitored and audited. Promote dissemination of compliance information, encourage behaviors that integrate compliance values into business practices and continuously reinforce to all staff personal responsibility for complianceMinimum Qualifications
Graduate and/or relevant professional qualification. Probe experience in Compliance or Legal Banking, Credit Institution or Insurance Experience Strong leadership skills & behaviors. Ability to work with / influence senior business leaders Strong communication skills. Demonstrated strong analytical skills Pro-active, results oriented and self-driven. Must be able to take initiative in resolving compliance issues, and identifying and solving problems in a constructive manner. Experience dealing with regulators, managing exams, regulatory reporting etc. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and complete tasks in a timely manner.
