Manager & Counsel – Global Merchant and Network Services, Network and Acquiring Solutions
The General Counsel’s Organization (GCO) at American Express is seeking a Manager & Counsel to support the Network and Acquiring Solutions (NAS) team within the Global Merchant and Network Services division (GMNS). NAS is responsible for managing the American Express Network globally, including operating the company’s acquiring and transaction processing platforms, and creating and managing network products that deliver value to various customers, including issuers, acquirers and technology partners. The position will report to a Vice President & Senior Counsel in the Global Merchant and Network Services practice group of the GCO.
Role & Responsibilities:
Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of contracts with third-party partners and service providers for the utilization of the American Express Network’s products and capabilities, such as Tokenization, Click-to-Pay, SafeKey, Digital Wallets and Cardrefresher. End-to-end support for the development and deployment of new products and capabilities of the American Express Network. Legal support for a broad range of non-card payment capabilities utilized by the enterprise and its partners, requiring close collaboration with others in the GCO, Compliance, Control Management and the business globally, to ensure the most effective support, coordination and expertise. Serve as a “center of excellence” for certain global template agreements and NAS subject matter areas, and coordinate with regional GCO supporting other areas of the NAS business. Participate in a small team of seasoned attorneys, offering thought leadership for, and engagement on, cross-subject matter practice group issues and strategic projects. Identify and support process improvements to promote agility in legal and related business operations, including contract template enhancements.Qualifications:
J.D. with ability to practice law in New York. 3+ years of legal experience with emphasis on corporate/contract law required; background in technology or financial services law preferred. Demonstrated competency in: (i) drafting agreements based on standardized templates; (ii) negotiating standard agreements with minimal supervision; (iii) providing practical, business-oriented advice and solutions; (iv) gaining credibility and developing strong working relationships with legal colleagues and business clients; (v) working well in cross-functional team settings; (vi) attention to detail; (vii) prioritization and handling of multiple tasks; (viii) working independently and meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment; (ix) regular and prompt client interaction, and (x) organizing and keeping track of sensitive documents. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and strong work ethic. Self-motivated, high level of personal energy and commitment. Enthusiasm and interest in learning the dynamic American Express Network and Acquiring Solutions business.Salary Range: $110,000.00 to $190,000.00 annually + bonus + benefits
