Position Overview: We are looking for a strategic and innovative Manager of Data Science to join our dynamic team at American Eagle Outfitters. In this role, you will lead our efforts to harness the power of data and artificial intelligence to drive business growth, optimize operations, and elevate customer engagement. You will oversee a talented team of data scientists, collaborating closely with cross-functional teams to implement cutting-edge solutions that deliver measurable impact.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and execute the data science and AI strategy aligned with AEO’s business objectives, focusing on enhancing customer experience, optimizing inventory management and driving sales growth. Lead a team of data scientists providing guidance, mentorship and career development opportunities to foster a high-performance culture. Drive the design, development and deployment of advanced analytics models, machine learning algorithms and AI-driven solutions to solve complex business challenges. Collaborate closely with stakeholders across merchandising, marketing, finance and operations to understand their data needs and deliver actionable insights and recommendations. Ensure the scalability, reliability and performance of data science and AI solutions, leveraging cloud platforms and big data technologies. Stay informed about industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in data science and AI, and apply this knowledge to continuously improve our capabilities and methodologies. Present findings, insights, and recommendations to senior leadership in a clear and compelling manner, influencing strategic decision-making processes. Manage project budgets, resources, and timelines effectively to ensure successful execution and delivery of initiatives.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field; advanced degree (Master’s or PhD) preferred. 3+ years of experience leading data science in a retail or consumer-focused industry, with a proven track record of delivering business impact. Strong proficiency in statistical analysis, machine learning techniques, and programming languages such as Python, R, or SQL. Experience managing and developing a team of data scientists including hiring, coaching and performance management. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams and influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization. Strategic thinker with a demonstrated ability to translate business requirements into data science solutions that drive operational efficiencies and customer satisfaction. Familiarity with cloud platforms (GCP) and other big data technologies.
