Manager - Device Engineering

POSITION OVERVIEW

As an Engineering Manager, you'll work collaboratively with your engineering team, Product Management, and business teams to drive technical discovery, design, and implementation of large-scale applications, products, and platforms. You'll work cross-functionally to identify short-term and long-term solutions and timelines, review and approve proposed solutions, and provide pertinent documentation, direction, and examples to your team. You are an ambitious, talented, and experienced engineering manager with a B.A., B.S., or M.S. in an Electrical, Computer, Software, or Embedded engineering discipline or a similar engineering background with an interest in embedded devices.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Overseeing the growth, development, and day-to-day management of a team responsible for sophisticated command and control of alarm and home automation systems. Work closely with multiple teams including embedded engineers, software engineers, product managers, and quality engineers to ensure seamless collaboration, align on project goals, drive innovation, and deliver high-quality products that meet user and business needs. Be knowledgeable and forward-thinking regarding technologies and developments in embedded firmware development, microcontrollers, sensors, short and long-range wireless communication, and power management. Provide strong leadership and foster a collaborative and inclusive team environment to ensure high levels of employee engagement and productivity. Utilize engineering skills to help the team solve technical challenges, actively participate in design/architecture reviews, and perform code reviews. Develop and implement strategic objectives for the team, aligning with the department and company’s vision and mission. Monitor and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) to uncover opportunities for growth and implement strategies to drive continuous improvement. Coordinate and manage cross-functional projects involving multiple teams and the larger department/company, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to project specifications. Allocate resources effectively to meet project deadlines and operational demands. Mentor and coach team members to achieve their full potential and foster a culture of continuous learning. Act as the primary point of contact between the team and other departments within the organization. Communicate effectively with senior management, providing regular updates on team performance, project status, and operational challenges. Other duties as assigned

CANDIDATE PROFILE:

B.A., B.S., or M.S. in an Electrical, Computer, Software, or Embedded engineering discipline or similar engineering background with an interest in embedded devices; or equivalent demonstrable experience is required 5+ years of experience in a managerial role overseeing one or more technical team(s). 3+ years of technical engineering experience in embedded platforms, including C programming and Python. Proficiency with embedded systems, RTOS, and bare-metal programming Knowledgeable and forward-thinking to engage in the research, evaluation, and application of new technologies and methodologies to solve challenging problems. Rigorous attention to detail with a focus on robustness, scalability, and quality of products. Exercise good judgment. Know when to work quickly, and when to build a robust solution. Have the experience to thoroughly vet your team’s designs and implementations. Organized with strong communication skills and a customer service mentality. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a small, fast-paced environment. Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage complex projects. Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to make data-driven decisions. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships and influence stakeholders at all levels. VALUED ADDITIONAL EXPERIENCE: 

Experience with cellular and local area radios, home automation protocols, USB and Ethernet, battery power devices, low power systems, and/or sensors a plus Exposure to designing for and understanding of UL, EN, and NFA2P life safety requirements. Previous experience with Altium PCB Design software, Arena PLM, and high-volume manufacturing. Master of Science degree or Engineering Management or similar degree.
