Northrop Grumman, Tactical Space Systems Division, has an opening for a Manager of Engineering 1 to join our team of highly qualified and diverse individuals. This position will be in Dulles, Virginia.

Tactical Space Systems has a need for a Manager Engineering 1 to be a functional homeroom manager, leading a team of individual contributors, and contribute directly to programs and other department activities.
These are highly dynamic, interactive positions. You will interact with numerous stakeholders including program management, test engineering, flight hardware design engineers and logistical support services. Outstanding organizational and leadership skills are required to succeed in these roles.

Job Scope Responsible for daily operations of a team or work unit (direct supervision of the staff, assignment of work, schedules, day to day workflow, and operating costs).  Manager responsibilities include: cost, schedule, and technical performance and personnel management of the Thermal Vacuum test facility. Assignments are received in task oriented terms. Will provide direction to subordinates using established policies and precedents. Work is reviewed for adequacy in meeting objectives.

Knowledge and Technical Skills Analysis & interpretation: Full working knowledge of procedures and practices. Decision Making Relating to cost and schedule of equipment operation and program success.

Risk to the Corporation: Makes decisions relating to accomplishment of daily work responsibilities. Decisions will directly impact the success of programs, testing and personnel. Monitors work operations of exempt and/or non-exempt employees on a daily basis and actively assists or provides direction to subordinates as required. May perform, especially in staff or professional groups, on-going operational tasks of organizational groups.

Policy Involvement:  Executes department procedures that typically affect individual employees within own department.

Policy management: Administers and executes policies and procedures that typically affect individual subordinate employees, along with Financial, Strategic Goals of Northrop Grumman. 

Meets the minimum requirements of executive exemption under the Fair Labor Standards Act. Operations Involvement / Direct Work Involvement Monitors daily operations of a unit and actively assists, or provides direction to, subordinates as required. May perform, especially in staff or professional groups, ongoing operational tasks of organizations unit. Impact Ensures that projects are completed on schedule following established procedures and schedules. Erroneous decisions or recommendations or failure to achieve results might cause delays in program schedules/costs, and result in the allocation of more resources.

FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

Staffing support to the Environmental test group.Conducting periodic performance evaluations per company policies.Providing technical leadership and guidance to the staffManaging indirect and capital budgets.Managing program costs related to Environmental test.Training of the Environmental Test TeamProfessional development and mentoring of direct reportsSupporting Functional Homeroom initiatives and projects which include process improvement, Event Response Teams, Corrective, and Preventive Action implementation

PROGRAM RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

Leading a team of Technician, Leads and Engineers.Develop Testing execution plans to meet program schedulesCoordinating Testing tasks between all disciplinesProviding Environmental Test operation status to upper management and the customer

Job Qualifications:

A Bachelor's degree with at least 2 years of experience supervisory or leading a team or projects, or 4 additional years of experience leading a team in lieu of the Degree. Minimum 6 years of combined experience supporting one or more of the following: Integration and Test, Environmental TestFamiliarity Northrop Grumman processes and training in Crane operations,  Forklift, Thermal Vacuum and other Environmental Testing disciplines. Experience and/or training in Computer, Electrical and Mechanical disciplines.Experience within the Aerospace and/or Defense industry. Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Top Secret Clearance with SCI access. 


Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor’s in science degree within a technical engineering field.Past Military Leadership a plus.Experience providing technical product support to a customer or a business.Experience establishing goal driven deadlines.Experience supporting hardware work packages.Skilled at providing presentation briefings to all levels of the business.     

Salary Range: $135,800.00 - $159,800.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
