Job Summary:
Creates and implements identification, cultivation, solicitation, closing and stewardship strategies on behalf of the Foundations. Actively Maintains and communicates to the public a culture of professionalism, honesty, integrity, and appreciation surrounding the solicitation and use of gifts made to any of the Independence Health System Foundations, including the BHS Foundation and the Clarion Foundation in the northern market, and the Latrobe Area Hospital Charitable Foundation and the Westmoreland/Frick Hospital Foundation in the southern market. Maintains a positive and communicative relationship with all Foundation Trustees.
Essential Job Responsibilities
The position is responsible for leading the department and accountable for foundation work. This position has direct supervisory responsibilities such as hiring, coaching/mentoring, skills development, recognition and rewards, staff productivity, performance management and succession planning. Equitably and consistently apply and practice policies and procedures for all staff. Develop and manage department budget at or below budget expectations and consistent with adjusted volume variations. Identify and implement revenue enhancement opportunities. Plays a lead role in Foundation board relations and regular board communications. Ensures two annual fund solicitations per year per Foundation. Leads the creation of the Foundation(s) planned giving program and recognition society. Oversees and manages Foundation fundraising and donor recognition events. At the direction of the Chief Development Officer, build and lead a grateful patient program Creates, implements, and oversees appropriate donor recognition and stewardship programs. This includes but is not necessarily limited to: Correspondence and calls Various publications including Benefactor, Accolades, website and other digital platforms Special events Informational programs Posting and publishing annual giving and memorial gifts Posting and maintaining donor recognition plaques and walls Ensures the appropriate use of all temporarily restricted accounts. Approves all purchase orders and check requisitions for temporary restricted accounts. Provides supervision to foundation staff. Delegates tasks appropriate to each staff member. Provides supervision to staff responsible for donor database. Must ensure security of data and employment of data for fundraising purposes. Encourages and maintains positive working relationships with other Independence Health employees in departments with intersecting functions, such as Community Relations, Marketing, Hospice/Home Health Care, Vice President(s) Patient Care Services at relevant Independence Health Hospitals. Assists in the development of the Foundation's annual operating budget. Provides necessary financial information to Independence Health accounting department in order to complete the budget. Provides projections of foundation activities for upcoming fiscal year. Leads the creation and development of written publications. Manages the Foundation websites and ensures that it remains current, compelling and in-line with brand standards. Assists in the development of the agenda for the Foundation board meetings. Attends Foundation board meetings and provides a report on activities. Supervises secretary in the taking of board minutes. Assists hospital departments in the submission of grant proposals for specific projects. Conducts funding research to identify appropriate prospects. Contacts funding sources, when necessary, for additional information. Creates, writes and submits proposals to individuals, corporations, and foundations as directed by the Chief Development Officer and at own initiative. Ensures that follow up grant reports to funding sources are generated in a timely manner. Prepares/submits all follow up reports. Represents the Foundation at community events, when appropriate. Attends community events, when appropriate. Serves as a liaison function between the community, the Foundations and the Hospitals, as needed Other duties as assigned.
Competency and Experience [Knowledge, Skills and Abilities]
Required Qualifications/Experience
Bachelor’s Degree or higher in related field and five (5) years of working directly with donors of all types in a development office experience. Proposal writing experience and working knowledge of donor-centered fundraising. Two (2) to Four (4) years supervisory/management experience in administrative or management. Strong leadership ability, good organizational skills, independent and critical thinking skills, sound judgment, and knowledge of legal aspects and liability of functional area. Strong ability to communicate complex and/or controversial topics and concepts to a wide and diverse audience. Proficiency in the use of a donor relationship database Proficiency in the use of donor engagement software. Proficiency in the use of Excel Spreadsheets, PowerPoint, and various software programs.
Preferred Qualifications/Experience
Master’s Degree in related field Experience in Healthcare setting.
License, Certification & Clearances
Act 34-PA Criminal Record Check from the PA State Police system.
