As the the Manager of Insights to Innovation …

You will be part of the North American Research & Product Development team, and  responsible for gathering and establishing insights of customer needs, design requirements and specifications for new product innovation and development of assigned projects.  The Manager will partner with functional areas and utilize experience, current theories and practices related to the New Product Introduction (NPI) process through knowledge of more than one discipline (e.g., R&D, Marketing, Customer Service, Finance, Manufacturing, Tech Service, Supply Chain, EHS, Legal, etc.).  Under the direction of the Director of Insights to Innovation, this role will manage project activities that allows integration of market insights and project deliverables.  Projects are moderately complex with medium impact to the global business.  Programs have moderate risk to the business unit.  Decisions are typically limited by functional area or business/division objectives/guidelines.  This position does not have direct reports and will need to be able to lead without authority, collaborate across cross-functional teams and inspire action through effective leadership.   This includes managing the activities listed in the project timelines and monitoring the output of all project participants (including co-workers, contract manufacturers and consultants). Types of collaborative projects include:  Technical development of new products (on site and contracted manufacturing); Resolution of technical issues in existing products; and Contracted research. 

 

What You’ll Do:

Establish customer needs utilizing tools and activities that include data gathering and organization, concept generation and selection, the translation of these customer needs to product requirements and validation of the final product design with the customer. Commit to business and/or division leadership the key deliverables, timeline and resources needs for the new product program. Assess market needs, trends, segments, and competitive landscape as well as primary and secondary market research to develop a value proposition. Identify, clarify, manage and navigate moderate risks inherent in the program. Communicate with managers, functional leaders, area/business leaders, department heads, team members, project stakeholders and division management on a regional basis. Resolve issues and conflicts related to the project and its team members, working with functional or business management as necessary.

 

What You’ll Bring:

Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Business or Scientific Discipline. Minimum of 5 years of experience specifically in new product development and/or commercialization. Knowledge of New Product Introduction process is required. Minimum of 5 years work experience in an R&PD environment, preferred. Good business acumen with the ability to understand project objectives and impact on the business Propensity for identifying issues proactively, making decisions with incomplete information, and driving action Intermediate knowledge of business practices, customer needs, cultural issues and regulatory requirements associated with launching a new product program globally. Ability to apply effective problem-solving techniques and methodologies to address moderately complex problems related to managing a commercialization project. Ability to create solutions for moderately complex problems, which requires ingenuity, creativity, innovation, and analytical skills. Excellent communication, problem solving, presentation and reporting skills Aptitude to analyze results and make recommendations Demonstrates ability to understand priorities, determine the critical path, develop contingency plans Demonstrated ability to listen, to clearly articulate objectives so that they are understood, and to provide both recognition and critical feedback Demonstrates positive influence, is open-minded as well as passionate about innovation Ability to travel an average of 25%

Salary/Sales + Bonus:  The expected pay range for this position is between $109,727  and $150,000.  Actual pay will be adjusted based on experience, market conditions, and other job-related factors permitted by law. This position qualifies for benefits which may also include a discretionary bonus and equity program.
