Testing Required:

Hybrid Role: This role has an established schedule of in-person work required at an assigned work location. Any remote work is expected to be from an employee’s primary residence, unless allowed (or prohibited) through the Company’s remote work guidelines.

Emergency Response: Yes – Must be available to perform a primary assignment in support of DTE’s emergency response to storms or other events that impact service to our customers.

Job Summary This individual will oversee employment and labor functional areas.  Manage legal risks regarding employment and labor issues; including policy and procedure development.  Responsible for managing attorneys and other legal staff within the practice group in the Corporation's General Counsel Organization. Provides ongoing process review, identifies opportunities for process/technology design improvements, and identifies and implements best practices to increase operational efficiencies and to provide top-quality, business focused legal support to the Enterprise & Business Units. Works with Chief Legal Officer and the legal leadership team in translating Corporate strategy into departmental and practice group strategies. Assumes responsibilities on behalf of the General Counsel and/or the Assistant General Counsel in their absence. Provides performance management support in establishing goals, providing mentoring and feedback, and completing employee appraisals of assigned staff and paralegals. Supports talent planning objectives by establishing developmental action plans for short and long-term career planning and by providing training and advancement opportunities for professional and para-professional legal staff. Key Accountabilities Responsible for legal success for corporate objectives and core values. Establishes strategies, systems, and process for and provisions for cost effective legal services by practice groups and outside counsel. Defines expectations for staff and outside counsel working with multiple clients with multiple legal issues. Responsible for meeting legal department budget objectives. Handles pressure situations, difficult clients, and outside counsel effectively. Undertakes special projects as assigned. Complies with ethical standards and assures compliance with ethical standards Minimum Education & Experience Requirements Graduate of accredited law school and admitted to the bar of employee's state of residence 7 years of legal experience, inclusive of 3 years with legal case and project team leadership and experience in the majority of the following areas: law office, client relationships, legal matters in multiple areas, performance of legal work by other attorneys both inside and knowledge assets, and individual attorney work skills Other Qualifications Extensive employment and labor law experience. Prior experience providing or managing legal advice on recruitment and talent planning; religious and disability accommodations; FMLA and related state statutes; EEOC/MDCR complaints and compliance; FLSA and related state wage & hour statutes; employment and worker’s compensation litigation; traditional labor negotiations, grievances, and arbitrations.  Ability to strategize and advise on governmental audits: OFCCP (Establishment and Headquarters CMCE audits); immigration Public Access Files and I-9. Understanding and advising on adverse impact data analytics related to Affirmative Action Plans; compensation and HR processes; and employment testing. Additional Information
