Manager-Legal Counsel
**It's more than a career, it's a calling.** MO-SSM Health Mission Hill **Worker Type:** Regular **Job Summary:** Manages legal programs and related legal matters. Manages contracts, legislative affairs, commercial and government programs compliance, subrogation, and internal audit functions. Collaborates to coordinate the legal representation needs organization, its affiliates and subsidiaries. Leads and facilitates legal teams and legal matters within the organization. **Job Responsibilities and Requirements:** PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES + Assumes significant responsibility for legal projects and coordinates responses with general counsel. Assigns staff to various projects including but not limited to: general contractual matters, real estate, asset purchases and various other legal transactions, and issues relating to regulatory compliance. + Works with administration, legal counsel, and government agencies, to represent organizational interests with external parties (state or local government) and participates in legal investigations. + Acts as a consultant with various corporate and clinical departments to provide interpretation of legal and corporate requirements and application of requirements within organization. + Works with representatives from various departments to develop, implement, modify, and update policies and procedures to conform to legal and corporate requirements. + Monitors relevant new statutes, regulations and judicial decisions and provides interpretation on applicability to organization operations. Provides interpretation of legal and corporate requirements relating to legal and operational issues, including but not limited to corporate responsibility department on privacy and security issues; human resources on labor and employment issues; hospital management staff regarding guardianship, protective placement, and mental commitments; outpatient care areas regarding termination of patient care relationships. + Prepares providers and staff for legal testimony in cases where the individual is a fact witness, and the case may or may not involve any professional liability claims. + Provides education to corporate and clinical representatives regarding various legal and regulatory issues. + Conducts hiring, training, directing, development and evaluating of staff. + Monitors and adheres to budget. Approves or monitors expenditures, purchases and other actions to ensure compliance with budget guidelines. + Performs other duties as assigned. EDUCATION + Juris Doctor (JD) degree from a law school accredited by the American Bar Association (ABA) EXPERIENCE + Seven years’ legal experience, with two years' in leadership PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS + Frequent lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 0-25 lbs. + Frequent sitting, standing, walking, reaching and repetitive foot/leg and hand/arm movements. + Frequent use of vision and depth perception for distances near (20 inches or less) and far (20 feet or more) and to identify and distinguish colors. + Frequent use of hearing and speech to share information through oral communication.
