Job Description Summary
Responsible for directing plant Processing Maintenance, Packaging Maintenance, Electrical Maintenance, Boiler and Refrigeration, Waste Treatment, Parts Stores & Purchasing to ensure maximum production with minimal downtime. Incumbent maintains a high level of productivity and employee morale.
Job Description
Provide leadership and an example of safety in the work place by participating and enforcing all plant policy and procedures. Be an involved member of the plant safety team and actively push for continuous improvement in the safety culture of the maintenance department.
Be responsive to plant regulatory compliance programs and ensure plant is in compliance with corporate and federal (OSHA) requirements. Specific responsibilities associated with Process Safety Management, Hot Work, Confined Space, Machine Guarding, Respiratory Protection, NFPA 70E, Hexavalent Chromium and Freon programs.Ensure product quality and integrity meet established expectations. Provide leadership to the maintenance team to effectively utilize Good Manufacturing Practices, and current food safety tools, to perform job tasks that align with plant quality expectations.
Meet production requirements by coordinating maintenance activities with the production schedule, Production, Quality Assurance, Field, Human Resource, and Warehouse teams to ensure maximum production with minimal downtime.
Provide effective leadership to direct the maintenance effort towards continuous improvement and ensure that mechanical downtime is kept to a minimum. Participate in Company Maintenance Standardization activities and keep the plant team aligned with company maintenance direction and improvements.
Plan and schedule work with proper prioritization, set objectives/expectations, and hold personnel accountable for effective performance against targets. Coordinate material and personnel requirements to ensure best utilization of available resources in a timely manner.
Track and maintain accurate records on the operating conditions of all plant equipment. Utilize and sustain effective metrics to measure maintenance team performance e.g. Availability Operational Equipment Effectiveness (OEE – mechanical downtime) Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF), Mean Time To Repair (MTTR), Stops, Preventative Maintenance Compliance, Job Kitting, Work Order Attainment. Conduct regular team reviews of past 24 hour/weekend performance through Breakdown Analysis (BDA) and Root Cause Analysis (RCA) practices to facilitate continuous improvement for plant uptime.
Implement/sustain employee training and skills development programs. Ensure that all employees are adequately trained and/or cross-trained in various specialties as applicable. Sustain current RETA CIRO certifications for Boiler and Refrigeration, Idaho State Electrical Journeyman licensing program, Department of Labor and College of Southern Idaho sponsored Industrial Technician program, State Water Treatment Certification program, Purchasing Certification programs.
Monitor, and maintain the computer-based preventive maintenance program to ensure the best utilization of the company, plant, property, and equipment.
Direct major repairs through well coordinated and planned plant shutdowns.
Stay abreast of state-of-the-art technology and new equipment innovations. Explore and recommend installation of feasible enhancements. Implement new technology into the maintenance program to drive effective improvements to the maintenance reliability program. Leverage use of analytical and predictive tools such as vibration analyses, thermography, oil analyses etc.
Ensure that fire protection equipment and alarming/notification systems are properly maintained, tested, and functional at all times.
Have working knowledge of all rules and regulations pertaining to corporate insurance program and contractor qualifications. Function as an active participant in the plant Emergency Action/Response team.
Maintain open lines of communications with salaried direct reports and plant hourly personnel. Maintain a high level of employee productivity and morale through the implementation of employee relations programs to ensure best utilization of the human asset. Periodically review staff and subordinates. Provide written assessments to assist in Performance Management Plan of all direct reports.
Prepare annual budgets for Maintenance Department and assist in the preparation of the annual and long range capital budget. Responsible for tracking and managing department spending to budget/forecast targets.
Ensure that outside work is competitively bid and that work is of the highest quality at the most economical cost.
Work cooperatively with Engineering to assist with planning and execution of the facility capital program. Provide input to Engineering with reliability data to justify profit sustaining capital improvements to compliment the maintenance program.
Contribute to the facility’s manufacturing objectives and goals by accomplishing all responsibilities with favorable effect on the performance of others in the organization.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, selecting, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Directly supervises the Team Leaders in Processing Maintenance, Packaging Maintenance, Electrical, Waste Treatment, Boiler & Refrigeration, and Purchasing Specialist. Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these Team Leaders and their associates.
Basic & Preferred Qualifications
10-15 years experience in a manufacturing facility maintenance environment; preferably a frozen potato processing background; 5-10 years' supervisory experience; good verbal, written, and technical skills; high school graduate; college degree is highly desirable, but not required.
