Manager-Milieu/BCBA Behavior Specialist

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

· Manage day-to-day operations of the units to ensure clinical aspect meet all regulatory requirements for the residents.

· Responsible for safe and effective day-to-day management of the milieu through adequate staff coverage, training and developing sound policies, procedures and protocols.

· Plan and develop unit schedules and provide a safe and positive environment on the units. Responsible for staff - ratio compliance.

· Provide training and orientation for new staff.

· Provide direct feedback, coaching, mentoring and training. Identifies staff development, training, and compliance issues with required training.

· Recruit, interview, select, hire and promote employees for the milieu staff.

· Provide direction to the Milieu Coordinator regarding scheduling of staff as required by regulation and safety need.

· Oversee or facilitate the individual and admission discharge processes.

· Manage the maintenance of records. Reviews content, accuracy and timeliness of paperwork required by milieu staff. Ensure 100% compliance of individual records.

· Responsible to maintain timekeeping for staff, evaluation of staff and corrective action as required.

· Provide direction and assistance in supervising residents in crisis intervention, emergency and conflict situation, which may include physical management and/or de-escalation. Debrief with staff and residents after such intervention.

· As a team leader, must be able to assist with patients and cover unit/group home as necessary to maintain ratio.

· Demonstrate a positive, empathetic and professional attitude towards customers always. When patient needs are not met, acknowledge and work to resolve complaints. Recognize that patient safety is a top priority.

Complete and update all DMH forms related to the BSI service and submit to the appropriate HCBS facility per timelines established.

· Train staff and/or family members to maintain and/or continue implementing the BSI plan.

· Collect data via observation and intervention and document appropriately.

· Train staff who provide other IDD/DD Waiver services to the individual on how to implement the BSI Plan and collect data.

· Shadow and/or intervene with undesired behaviors while the individual is receiving any other IDD/DD waiver service.

· Assist the individual to become more effective in controlling his/her own behavior either through counseling or by implementing the BSI Plan and document appropriately.

· Document collaboration with medical and other therapies to promote coherent and coordinated services, address behavioral issue and limit the need for psychotherapeutic medications, when applicable.

· Monitor effectiveness of the BSI Plan and revise and/or update accordingly based on observation, implemented interventions, and review of data collection forms.

· Participate in the development of the Behavior Support Plan with the Behavior Consultant.

· Implement the Behavior Support Plan.

· Collect and analyze data for the effectiveness of the Behavior Support Plan as approved by the Behavior Consultant.

· Monitor fidelity of implementation of the Behavior Support Plan and reliability of the data.

· Adjust or revise the strategies identified in the Behavior Support Plan as approved by the Behavior Consultant.

 

· Provide face-to-face training on the Behavior Support Plan and implementation strategies to staff and other caregivers. This shall include training for meals, hygiene, and/or community activities, and evenings and weekends noted in the behavior support plan as particularly challenging.

· Monitor program staff and other caregivers on the implementation of the Behavior Support Plan.

· Submit documentation to the Behavior Consultant s specified in the Behavior Support Plan with documents progress towards successful implementation of the Behavior Support Plan.
