The Manager of Anatomic Pathology manages the daily the operations of the Histopathology Laboratory. This includes ensuring that regulatory and safety requirements are met. Supervises staff, including all activities relative to work assignments, hiring/termination, performance reviews, orientation, and professional development.

\n

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE

\n\nManages the daily functions of the histopathology laboratory to ensure it runs efficiently. Performs all delegated functions as defined by facility CLIA Director.\nPrepares schedules, coordinates job assignments, and monitors personnel including the selection, orientation, training, assignments, evaluations, discipline, and discharge of employees.\nServes as a liaison between residents, pathologists, and histopathology laboratory staff. Works with physicians for special staining and cutting request in gross and routine areas.\nOversees equipment maintenance records and schedules preventative maintenance for equipment including microscopes, microtones, strainers, ovens, and cryostats.\nBudgets, provides information about supplies, personnel, and equipment, seeks avenues of cost containment, and plans long-term purchases or capital equipment.\nDevelops, recommends, implements, and maintains policies and procedures related to the histopathology laboratory.\nEnsures compliance with all safety standards established by OSHA and CAP.\nRemains knowledgeable of trends in Histopathology through review of current literature and continuing education.\n\n

\n\nKnowledge of laboratory regulations, protocols and procedures.\nStatistical and critical thinking abilities.\nAbility to comprehend and communicate instructions.\nAbility to perform laboratory protocols and procedures.\nKnowledge of safety and infection control standards.\nAbility to work in a team environment.\nProvides training and opportunities for continuing education.\nAbility to make operational choices around how work gets done quality and productivity standards, measurable goals for employees and project teams, etc.\nAbility to use broader targets to regulate how best to use resources to meet schedules and goals.\nAbility to make or approve effective hiring and termination judgments.\nAbility to evaluate and recommend changes to policies, and establish procedures that affect the managed organization.\nBasic business knowledge, including but not limited to: annual planning and goal setting, adherence to budgets, employee compensation, compliance and risk management.\nGeneral computer skills, including but not limited to: Microsoft Office, information security, scheduling and payroll systems, electronic medical documentation, and email.\n\n
