Provides direction and leadership to Business Center support staff. Partners with local businesses and nonprofit organizations to promote success and growth by planning and facilitating workshops, mixers and individual client consultations. Provides advanced analytical, communication, and coordination services. Performs financial duties, project management, administrative duties, and special projects. The Business Center provides local businesses and nonprofit organizations tools for success and growth through workshops, mixers, and individual consultations. The Creative Studios comprises design, maker, production, and sound studios for The Slover. This team will directly interface with the Roy E. Hendrix Business Center to support business and nonprofit growth and engage visitors and residents. Essential Functions + Creates local business workshops including Creative Studios workshops to establish and support local businesses, nonprofit organizations, and entrepreneurship. + Partners with the City of Norfolk and private groups to assist businesses and nonprofit organizations in growth through grants and similar offerings. + Works with Creative Studios to create relevant business and nonprofit workshops. + Plans and hosts business mixers to foster The Slover awareness and business networking. + Builds a portfolio of workshops and offerings to bolster local businesses and individual client demands. + Promotes communication and partnership with internal City departments and external private groups to assist businesses and nonprofit organizations in growth through grants and similar offerings. + Oversees the planning, organization and facilitation of workshops to increase tourism and awareness of The Slover’s programs and offerings. Manages support staff to assist clients and promote Business Center and Creative Studios services. + Maintains and tracks revenue-generating supplies. Compiles and provides revenue information to departmental or senior management and other staff. Ensures costs are accurately reflected by reconciliation and maintenance of various tracking systems and reports. + Establishes and implements operational policies and procedures and develops performance measures for regularly evaluating team and individual performance and practices. + Supervises personnel by interviewing, hiring, evaluating, developing, training, disciplining personnel, scheduling and assigning tasks, and managing work output. + Performs financial duties, project management, administrative duties, and special projects related to the Business Center and the Creative Studios. Education/Experience + Work requires broad knowledge in a general professional or technical field. Knowledge is normally acquired through four years of college resulting in a Bachelor's degree or equivalent. + Three years of supervisory experience + Experience of event and/or facilities, or related experience + Experience managing operations in a creative production environment such as a lab, shop, or studio. + Ability to solve problems, make decisions, and handle multiple priorities. + Proficiency in operating Microsoft Office Suite + Experience with Apple MacOS computer hardware and related equipment. + Two years of progressively responsible professional experience including serving in a managerial capacity. Additional Information & Requirements Working Hours: This position is 40 hours per week. Workdays and hours will vary depending on organizational needs. The facility will be open Monday-Saturday 9 a.m.-7 p.m. This position will require flexibility to work weekend and evening schedules. This will be a pre-tax payroll deduction. If you are hired January 1, 2022, or after to a position with Virginia Retirement System (VRS) benefits, you will be required to contribute five percent (5%) of your salary toward your retirement benefit. This will be a pre-tax payroll deduction. + The Tuition Assistance Program is established to encourage employees toward continued self-development and education.
