Compensation includes a base salary of $97,100.00 - $161,800.00. The base salary may vary within the anticipated base pay range based on factors such as the ultimate location of the position and the selected candidate’s knowledge, skills, and abilities. Position may be eligible for additional compensation that may include an incentive program.

Cox Communications is Hiring a Manager of Government Affairs!

Are you passionate about navigating the intersection of business, government, and community impact? Cox Communications is seeking a Manager of Government Affairs to join our dynamic team! Reporting to the Vice President of Government and Public Affairs and the Director of Government Affairs, this role is pivotal in advancing Cox's interests by ensuring compliance, advocating for sound policy, and fostering relationships with key stakeholders.

This position offers a high level of autonomy and visibility, with opportunities to influence public policy, represent the company’s interests, and enhance Cox’s presence in its markets. The Manager’s contributions will directly impact Cox's ability to thrive amidst evolving legislation, regulation, and taxation.

Key Responsibilities

Compliance & Regulatory Engagement

Ensure Cox’s compliance with federal, state, and local licensing and regulatory requirements.

Negotiate and renew licenses and franchise agreements.

Act as the primary liaison for inquiries from municipalities, state agencies, and federal entities, including FCC-related matters.

Collaborate with internal teams on permitting, market expansion, and rights-of-way issues.

Advocacy & Public Policy

Develop and execute strategies to advocate for Cox’s interests at the local and state levels.

Represent Cox in meetings with elected officials and testify on policy issues impacting the company.

Manage relationships with local lobbying firms and consultants, ensuring alignment on strategies and objectives.

Lead grassroots campaigns and political engagement initiatives to advance Cox’s position.

Community & Employee Engagement

Organize employee education programs on public policy and political involvement.

Represent Cox at community events, nonprofit boards, and business forums.

Drive community engagement to elevate Cox’s brand and presence in key markets.

Strategic & Operational Leadership

Track market trends and provide insights to inform business and government strategies.

Support economic development and business growth initiatives in collaboration with Cox subsidiaries.

Oversee government affairs budgeting and reporting, including lobbying and PAC activities.

Qualifications

Required

Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline (i.e., political science, law, business, communications, etc.) and 6 years experience in a related field. The right candidate could also have a different combination, such as a master's degree and 4 years’ experience or a Ph.D. and 1 year’s experience in a related field.

5 or more years of experience required in government relations/lobbying, related legal or relevant government staff position(s), and public policy. (3 or more years of highly relevant experience is required if the candidate possesses a related advanced degree.)

Established relationships with elected officials, trade associations, and lobbying communities.

Exceptional leadership, collaboration, and negotiation skills.

Strong communication and project management expertise.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office and a demonstrated ability to handle confidential matters with discretion.

Ability to travel up to 25%, including overnight trips.

Preferred

Experience with public utility commissions or telecom regulatory issues.

Fundraising and PAC management experience.

Knowledge of telecommunications and broadband industries.

Familiarity with state and federal government affairs.
