Summary

Provide the leadership to Melt Production Planning and Item Engineering for Special Metals Corporation.

Essential Functions

The position incumbent is required to have a fundamental knowledge and understanding of SMC:

Manufacturing operations and capabilities.  A working knowledge of the SMC computerized and manual scheduling and inventory control systems. This position involves the extensive use of Oracle Applications as well as PC based programs such as Lotus Notes, Excel. Individual shall understand capacity planning in the performance of daily forecasting and planning. This candidate should be able to use technology and operation aptitude to stream line operational constraints. The individual should have above average communication skills. The candidate shall be versed in various problem solving techniques. 

Additional Responsibilities

Utilize MPS to make decisions to support raw material supply and finished goods demand, while analyzing slow moving WIP and MRB.Create a rolling 3-month Master Melt Production Plan for internal and third party products. Utilize the production capacity tool, taking into consideration the sales forecast, historical sales, and new business opportunities. Analyze and identify risks built into the Master Production Plan, including manufacturing lead times.Create inventory targets (TOC) and manage melt  production to achieve targeted inventory levels on both a VC/ESH and throughput basis.Maintain #9 VIM backlog and adjust plans as necessary.Analyze customer inquiries for the purpose of providing the Sales Group sufficient information necessary for quotation compatible with SMC manufacturing capabilities and current capacity restrictions.Monitor daily throughput versus the Master Production Plan at the individual milestone level. Identify gaps and drive solutions with the operations group, including a metric on production performance to the requested production schedule. Work with the Manager of Production Planning to provide the SMC Sales Group inventory availability and current processing lead-timesTimely and accurate implementation of modifications to orders in process resulting from both internal and/or customer generated changes.Routinely review and update manufacturing order status to ensure appropriate application and scheduling of orders and the maintenance of required inventory back-upSupport the S&OP process meetings to review service levels, performance against schedule, inventory strategy, supply plan to meet demand, and resource implications.Assist the Manager of Production Planning/Item Engineering group to insure timely, effective, error-free release and completion of WIP jobs, inquiries, IRRs and inventory assignment.

Education and Experience

Minimum Degree: BS or BA.  Desired Certification: APICS.  Work Experience: Minimum 5 years in a manufacturing leadership role.
