+ **Job Description Summary**
This position will contribute and coordinate Patient Safety and Risk Management program necessary to achieve Methodist Health System (MHS) strategic goal of becoming a High Reliability Organization (HRO) by leading HRO implementation and sustainability programs. Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
+ Supporting a facility on a day-to-day basis through program ownership and/or coordination; investigating, analyzing, and trending patient safety events and data;
+ Conducting patient safety and risk management educational programs;
+ Complying with licensing, accrediting, and regulatory obligations with the objectives of enhancing patient, visitor, and employee safety;
+ Protecting the assets of the organization.

Your Job:
+ Contribute to the prevention of future harm by initiating and overseeing proactive evaluation and redesign of systems to improve care processes (e.g. forcing functions, checklists, error causation thinking, human factors, applied informatics, culture).
+ Support improved outcomes by emphasizing both appropriate behaviors and robust systems that include concise accountability measures and follow-up.
+ Improve consistent delivery of evidence-based care and reduction in preventable harm by supporting, applying, modeling, and reinforcing high-reliability principles while maintaining a fair and just culture.
+ Effectively report, investigate, and analyze patient safety incidents, medical errors, and potential risks in the facility.
+ Facilitate thorough and credible safety event analysis that results in strong sustainable improvement strategies
+ Timely management of patient complaints and grievances, including responding to patient complaints and grievances, tracking, and trending of complaints.
+ Partner with facility leadership to establish activities that enable and sustain an open and fair environment promoting learning, safe systems, and appropriately managing behavioral choices related to patient safety (e.g. Patient Safety Rounds, Event Response, and Disclosure).
+ Collaborate with the system legal department to coordinate investigations related to potential litigation cases, and manage any identified legal and facility risk events.
+ Facilitate and/or participate with various task forces, workgroups, and committees both at the system and facility level to implement identified patient safety and clinical risk initiatives as needed with ongoing monitoring and involvement to ensure continued progress.
+ Coordinate the selection, presentation, and follow-up of cases at system and facility level Serious Safety Event committees.
+ Champion completion of Culture of Safety Survey.
+ Serves as the facility Patient Safety Officer. Facilitate analysis of culture of safety survey results such that data-driven action plans lead to targeted outcomes.
+ Direct supervision of other risk and or patient relations staff, as applicable to the facility.
+ Build and maintain trusting and collaborative relationships with internal and external costumers to enhance communication regarding patient safety and risk management. Demonstrates the ability to build trust while maintaining confidentiality. Has a high emotional intelligence and acts as an effective leader and influencer.
+ **Your Job Requirements**
+ Certification in Patient Safety (CPPS) or Certified Professional in Health Care Risk Management (CPHRM) required; If not already CPPS or CPHRM, must obtain certification within 12 months of hire. Equivalent certification may be considered with approval of VP of CEPS.
+ Maintain CPPS or CPHRM while in role.
+ Bachelor’s Degree in Healthcare related field required. Master’s Degree in Healthcare related field preferred.
+ Three years healthcare management experience preferred. Two years’ experience in healthcare patient safety, risk, and/or quality preferred.
+ Healthcare experience should be recent and within a clinical setting such as Hospital

**Physical Demands and Working Conditions**
Prolonged, extensive or considerable writing, talking on the telephone, sitting, standing, and/or walking. Occasionally lifts, bends, or carries items less than 15 pounds.
Requires hearing and visual acuity.
Subject to stress and frustration due to multiple calls and inquiries. Occasionally will come in contact with patients under a wide variety of circumstances.
Additional hours may be required to meet hospital/patient needs.
Minimal exposure to infectious disease and chemical OSHA classification III.
