QESH Manager

 

This is a combined strategic and operational role working across quality, environmental, health and safety functions.

 

Strategically, the postholder will proactively identify measures that will enhance the QESH credentials of the site and work closely with the Plant Manager, Engineering Manager and Finance Controller to evaluate those measures then monitor the impact of any that are implemented.

 

Operationally, the postholder will have operational responsibility for implementing approved measures to enhance the site’s QESH credentials, as well as ensuring site compliance with quality, environmental, health and safety legislation and industry standards.

 

 

Key tasks:

 

Quality:

Develop, implement, and monitor quality management systems (QMS) to ensure compliance with ISO standards and industry best practices. Develop and execute on Hoshin plans. Conduct regular audits and inspections to identify quality issues and implement corrective actions. Work with cross-functional teams to ensure products and services meet or exceed quality standards. Develop the yearly tactical plan for the site specific A3 Quality plan in alignment with the Corp QA fiscal year strategies.

 

Environmental:

Oversee environmental impact assessments and ensure compliance with environmental laws and regulations. Develop and promote sustainable practices to minimize the organization's environmental footprint. Ensure the company's environmental policies are up to date and align with industry standards.

 

H&S :

Lead the implementation of health and safety programs to prevent workplace accidents and illnesses. Conduct safety audits, risk assessments, and incident investigations. Ensure all safety protocols are in place, communicated effectively, and followed by employees at all levels. Oversee employee training on health and safety issues and ensure compliance with OSHA (or relevant regulatory bodies) standards.

 

Compliance and Reporting:

Ensure that the organization complies with local regulations concerning quality, environment, health, and safety. Prepare and submit regular compliance reports, audits, and risk assessments to regulatory bodies and senior management. Keep up-to-date with changes in laws, regulations, and industry standards that affect the QEH&S landscape.

 

Continuous Improvement:

Drive continuous improvement initiatives for quality, environmental, health, and safety performance across the organization. Implement key performance indicators (KPIs such as ippm, eppm, cpk, ipml) and track QEH&S metrics. Collaborate with department heads to identify areas for process optimization and risk mitigation.

 

Emergency Preparedness and Response:

Develop and maintain emergency response plans related to health, safety, and environmental hazards. Ensure the organization is prepared for emergencies and that employees are well-trained in emergency procedures.

 

Line management:

To effectively supervise the Quality team and ensure that they are trained to the required standard. To manage the holiday and absence issues of your team To ensure company policies and procedures, including disciplinary and grievance, are adhered to.

 

 

 

Technical Ability:

 

 

Desirable: 

NEBOSH certificate or diploma. BSc or equivalent qualification in Chemistry / Chemical Engineering.

 

 

Experience:

 

Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a similar role, including strategy development and implementation Demonstrable experience of implementing, auditing and managing quality systems with evidence of successfully reducing non-compliances Demonstrable experience of successfully managing environmental permits, executing testing requirements, maintaining compliance with legislation and implementing corrective actions Demonstrable experience of conducting H&S risk assessments in a manufacturing environment and implementing necessary control measures to reduce or eliminate risks and ensure compliance with legislation Demonstrable experience of proactively identifying, assessing and implementing QESH continuous improvement measures in a manufacturing environment Strong working knowledge of UK environmental, health and safety legislation applicable to a manufacturing environment Experience of preparing sites for audits against, ISO9001 and ISO14001 Experience of managing people.

Meticulous attention to detail Completer finisher Inquisitive, with an analytical mind Computer-literate, knowledge of MS Office is essential.

 

 

Hours:

 

Mon – Fri, 37.5 hpw

Core hours of 9am – 12pm and 2pm – 4pm Mon – Thurs, 9am – 12pm Fri, with remaining hours to be worked around these times
