Manager Refinery Optimization - Ardmore
**Description:** Valero is looking for a *Manager Refinery Optimization* to join the *Optimization Planning & Economics* team at the *Valero Ardmore Refinery in Ardmore, Oklahoma*. The Manager Refinery Optimization manages the Refinery Scheduling and Planning Group, including planning engineer, various schedulers and blenders. This role provides backup support to planning engineer (e.g., running linear program/optimization model) and schedulers. *Responsibilities may also include: * * Maximizes long term profitability of the refinery by leading a team of Schedulers and Engineers to coordinate crude receipts, product blending and liftings, refinery operating targets, and unit outage timing with the refinery operations and technical teams. * Develops monthly Refinery Operating Plans and communicates the plans with Corporate Planning & Economics (P&E) group as well as refinery operations and technical group. * Annually develops refinery Strategic Plan to quantify refinery profitability, unit outage timing, feedstock demand, product length, and refinery operating posture for a 5 year outlook. * Issues weekly operating instructions, sets optimal unit operating targets, plans for upcoming turnarounds, communicates refinery operating status to Corporate P&E, approves new feedstocks, and identifies new economic opportunities. * Provides timely guidance and direction to Operations for plan variances 24 hrs/day. * Calls/facilitates daily operating signals based on current market environment and unit configuration. Communicates refinery operating status to the Corporate P&E staff, interfacing daily to communicate key issues, constraints, and opportunities. Works in collaboration with Corporate P&E to optimize synergistic effects between refineries. * Manages the refinery’s P&E staff and develops talent within the refinery organization by training Planning Engineers and Refinery Scheduling/Blending Specialists to understand refinery economics and drive refinery economic performance. * Reviews the monthly volume variance on refinery operations produced by the Planning Engineer. Responsible to follow-up on any variances that require model updates. * Oversees the use of crude and feedstock scheduling/blending tools and the Economic Model (APS and Spiral). Provide feedback to model maintenance group regarding model improvements to improve work efficiency and create better, more optimized schedules. * Manages the development of plans and contingency plans around planned/unplanned maintenance and turnaround work, including tank work. * Represents P&E at numerous routine meetings, including Turnaround Steering Committee, AFE reviews, daily operations meeting, plan review meetings, daily/weekly teleconferences with Corporate P&E groups, etc. * Provides consulting and expert advice on all refinery capital projects during all phases of project development. Such responsibilities include: Provides advice and actively participates in the scoping phase; Assists in the preparation and the presentation of project highlights/status to senior plant management; Follows project progression through design basis, procurement, construction, check-out, commissioning, and start-up phases. * Stays abreast of upcoming product specification changes and the impact that these changes will have on planned slate of crude and feedstocks for the refinery. * Ensures refinery P&E team updates and maintains all necessary reports and documentation for fuels compliance. This position is salaried exempt status, which means you are not eligible for overtime pay. **Qualifications:** * Bachelor’s or higher level degree in Engineering required. * 10 years of refining industry experience required. * Experience using Spiral and/or Aspen PIMS linear programming/optimization software/techniques required. * Experience or familiarity with refinery scheduling work processes and methodology required. * B.S in Chemical Engineering preferred. * Experience or familiarity with gasoline blending/scheduling work processes and methodology, including an understanding of the math/calculations related to the use of gasoline blend correlations preferred. * Able and willing to work on-site, in-person at the Valero Ardmore Refinery, required.
