Supervises and directs Fixed Equipment Reliability Engineers along with the Chief Refinery Inspector. Primary focus of this group is to improve and ensure the reliability and integrity of the fixed equipment in the refinery.
Job Duties:
Coordinates daily activities and provide leadership for the Fixed Equipment Reliability Engineers.Provides leadership and guidance to the Chief Refinery Inspector to ensure that required inspection tasks are being completed and equipment integrity risks are known and being effectively managed.Manages staff resources as required to optimize technical mechanical support.Promotes environmental and safety goals of Valero.Supervises Fixed Equipment Engineering support on capital projects and for turnaround activities on all major and/or critical equipmentPerforms the supervisory functions of personnel administration, organizational development and salary administration.Stewards contractor activity for progress and quality on engineering and construction projects and issues non-conformance reports.Supervises the Engineering and Inspection staff as required to identify, define and implement projects designed to improve fixed equipment reliability and performance plant wide, to provide technical support for operational and maintenance issues, and supervise in the development of maintenance standards for fixed equipment and any associated training.Develops long-term improvement plans for fixed equipment and provides assistance with preparation of capital and expense budgets for the Department.Provides reports as necessary for budget and monthly activities.Utilizes the Engineering staff to provide required operator training and to develop equipment standardization guidelines as necessary.Acts as the Deputy Planner Section Chief, supporting the Planner Section Chief during Emergency Response Team drills, exercises, and events.Leads monthly team safety audits and provide report out presentations as part of morning meetings.Ensures monthly Fixed Equipment Reliability Reports are developed and presented to the RLT.Works with California DOSH, Pressure Vessel Division to ensure compliance with jurisdictional requirements.This position is salaried exempt status, which means you are not eligible for overtime pay.
The [salary range] [rate] for this position is $166,000 to $229,000 and represents Valero’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of expected compensation at the time of this posting. Actual compensation will be determined based on a number of job-related factors, including but not limited to, the individual’s qualifications and experience.

Bachelor’s or higher-level degree in Mechanical Engineering required.10 years of specific refinery related experience with exposure and responsibilities in the maintenance/engineering areas required.Five years’ experience in direct management of personnel preferred.Working knowledge of SAP preferred.Computer skills and proficient in Microsoft Windows, Word, Excel software required.Working knowledge of API codes California State Safety Orders preferred.Able and willing to work on-site, in-person at the Valero Wilmington Refinery, required.All successful candidates must be eligible to obtain a TWIC card (Transportation Worker Identification Credential).
