Manager Risk Advisor

Purpose

Contributes to the overall success of the AML & Internal Control Unit for the Caribbean Region in globally ensuring specific individual goals, plans, initiatives are executed / delivered in support of the team’s business strategies and objectives. Ensures all activities conducted are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.

The incumbent is responsible to support the implementation in the country/Hub of the Operational Risk Framework programs, methodologies, and tools established by the 2nd line, in compliance with local regulations; as well as to contribute to their sustainability.

Will work closely with our internal clients to provide support and recommendations to bring to closure the action plans and issues, making sure issues root cause and associated risks are addressed timely and effectively to prevent recurrence and mitigate risk.

Will interact with relevant stakeholders through email, leading meetings, presentations, and conference calls, and escalate any delays in a timely matter.


Accountabilities
• Provide subject matter expertise and collaboration to the assigned Business Line(s) in establishing appropriate internal controls which support business plan growth, increase productivity, mitigate risk and provide a consistent customer experience.
• Execute the corresponding activities related to the Non-Financial Risk Management programs such as and not limited to: Risk and Control Self Assessments (RCSAs), Scenario Analysis, Key Risk Indicators, Operational Loss Events, New Initiative Risk Assessments (NIRAs), Risk Matrices, Third Party Risk Management (TPRM), as applicable.
• Collaborate with Business lines and Regional/District/Country resources, coordinating and providing oversight to Audit Findings and Internal Control Review remediation efforts as required; ensuring operational deficiencies are addressed and operational soundness is maintained.
• Proactive follow-up to ensure that commitments made are delivered on.
• Provide support to business units in case of internal control breakdowns, providing guidance on action plan and escalating to relevant stakeholders.
• Support the Senior Manager Risk Advisor in all aspects of major strategic internal control change initiatives, leveraging process and technology solutions that can be shared across IB and provide consistency with Bank models.
• Provide support and independent review to ensure effective and efficient risk assessment and adequate controls are in place within the supported countries.
• Identify key divisional internal control processes for re-engineering, aligning policies and procedures.
• Assist in the development and distribution of all Caribbean operational risk reporting materials (e.g. Local Operational Risk Committee Meeting materials, Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), Dashboard benchmarks and reporting etc.)
• Share Internal Control review recommendations and Best Practices to ensure consistent application of key internal controls which contribute to sustained improvement of risk key performance indicators across the Caribbean Region
• Support the implementation and delivery of operational risk metrics and indicators to ensure adherence to the District/Country risk appetite, including reporting at the District/Country level.
• Support the Caribbean region with projects associated with non-financial risk and their documentation to ensure that initiative reports are updated, if necessary.
• Enable a stronger risk culture through ongoing coaching on risk and controls and training on the Operational Risk Framework and tools.
• Act as a strategic partner to the senior leadership team in each business area, ensuring challenges and issues are addressed effectively.
• Support the Caribbean region with projects associated with non-financial risk and their documentation to ensure that initiative reports are updated, if necessary.


Skills

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
• +3 years of financial services and risk management work experience. Knowledge of banking products, banking regulations, financial and operations functions.
• Previous experience in Operational Risk Management/Compliance/Audit would be an asset.
• Candidates must be willing to travel internationally periodically.
• Superior written/verbal communication and interpersonal skills. The candidate should be fully bilingual (English/Spanish)
• Leadership skills and the ability to effectively organize a process with high visibility and multiple deliverables with specific and time sensitive deadlines.
• A demonstrated ability to effectively work hands-on as well as with cross – functional teams.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Familiar with PowerPoint.
• Strong analytical skills, attention-to-detail, and ability to make effective decisions.
• Strong problem-solving skills, strategic thinking in identifying risks and customer focused solutions.
