Responsible for the management of the safety at a Mine and controlling the safety risk through design and implementation of safety control systems. Also responsible for implementation of DGMS guidelines related to safety.   *Description for Internal Candidates         *Key Responsibilities of Role    

Implementation of Safety Norms as per DGMS permission conditions and to ensure safe Mining operations as per guidelines given by DGMS. 

To ensure zero NC's (Non conformaties) during all safety audit by DGMS  To reduce number of unsafe incidents   Capturing of concerns in the mine  HIRA development for the mine  Formulation and ensuring implementation of risk mitigation measures  Ensuring timely submission of reports to DGMS 

Ensure DGMS safety related compliances implementation by  

Timely submission of replies against letters by statutory authorities  To ensure zero non-compliance against record keeping as per DGMS guidelines  Checking statutory records 

Ensure Safety signage display in the mine operations area 

Conduct safety rounds of the mine. Visit all parts of the mine,  meet the workers on the spot, to talk to them on matters of safety and invite suggestions thereon and ensure implementation of  relevant suggestions 

Conduct safety Orientation of newly appointed staffs to the mine safety 

Ensure all contractor employees have undergone Medical, Safety Induction/VTC and other statutory norms 

Identify the risks  due to inundation, coal dust, fire , Electrical safety , Traffic safety and apprise the manager for risk control measures implementation  

Train employees on mine  safety including  

safety classes/talks/lectures to the supervisory staff  vocational training, training in gas testing, and training in first aid to non-supervisory staff  Ensure that  safety classes and tool box meetings are being conducted by the supervisors in districts 

Formulate Emergency Plan, train employees and implement. Conducting mock drill at periodic intervals 

Conduct Mines safety inspection visit and to report to the manager as a result of his visits to the various parts of mine, as to whether the provisions of the Act, and the rules and regulations made thereunder are being complied with in the mine; 

Promote safe practices generally and to lend active support to all measures intended for furthering the cause of safety in the mine and follow up measures for compliance to the recommendations of the Safety Committee and Workman’s Inspectors 

Prepare monthly Safety MIS about mine accidents and to identify the root causes and implement preventive actions  

Investigation of all the incidents, near miss incidents and identify common causes and implement preventive actions   

Ensuring all legal compliances for safety under legatrix 

Organize annual safety week celebration - Successful preparation of Annual Safety fortnight celebration  

Conduct Safety review meetings  

Conduct and participate in the meetings like tripartite meeting, meetings for safety fortnight   Conducting monthly safety oath and safety meetings  Participation in safety council meetings and ensure implementation of decisions in the mine

Essential: B.tech. /B.E-Mining with First class Manager's Certificate - Coal
