Manager Service Line - Heart and Vascular Surgical Services
Overview With a continuous focus on high quality patient care, the Manager Service Line is responsible for efficient and fiscally sound operational leadership for the respective program locations within the service line. The Manager will be responsible for day to day site operations and will work in close partnership with hospital administration and service line leadership to ensure goals and objectives are supported through thoughtful planning and implementation. The Manager will oversee accreditation and regulatory requirements, fiscal management, human resources management and collaboration with the Medical Director and service line leadership to develop and implement strategies for the site and system. The Service Line Manager is responsible for quality and operational efficiency improvement for heart and vascular surgical services across our three primary surgical sites at Southdale, St. Johns and UMMC. This role has direct responsibility for managing our Ventricular Assist Device (VAD) team at UMMC which includes a supervisor and clinical care team supporting our VAD patients. This role will report to the SL Executive for Heart and Vascular. Responsibilities Job Description Acts as a subject matter expert for the program and services provided. Leads improvement efforts and ensures that staff and clinicians are supported and held accountable through consistent expectations. Acts as a liaison between site leadership and system resources/partnerships. Accountable for continuous improvement and achieving key performance metrics for quality, customer experience, engagement and efficiency. Responsible for the financial performance of the clinic, including revenue, expense management and provider productivity. Implements corrective actions to ensure financial success of the practice in obtainment of financial targets. Acts as a subject matter expert as it relates to patient satisfaction data. Understands key drivers and initiates action plans to continuously improve the patient experience. Articulates and leads changes to align system efforts and strategies with service line growth and operations. Independently, in partnership with Human Resources, manages all human resource activities for employed team members; includes recruitment, on-boarding, staff assignments, recognition, and performance management. Partners with system resources to ensure staff are competent. Ensures employees are orientated to the organization, business unit, site and position. Manages a respectful and healthy work environment for a diverse work force. Acts as a subject matter expert for quality and regulatory standards. Has the ability to articulate the standards into daily practices, operations, and process improvement efforts as needed. Ensures the work environment is safe and compliant with regulatory standards. As the major interface between staff and system leadership, proactively identifies barriers to achievement and partners with all parties to develop improvement plans. Identifies barriers to achievement of clinical outcome measures and partners with Medical Directors to develop and implement effective improvement plans. Qualifications Required Education · Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, or related field. Experience · At least three years of healthcare experience in a complex setting. At least one year of experience leading multi-disciplinary teams of professionals. · Supervisory experience · Quality and safety improvement experience · Project management experience · Track record of leading cross-functional teams on large system projects · Track record of developing effective relationships with executive and physician leaders · Hospital operations experience – procedural areas Preferred Education · Master’s degree preferred. Experience · RN preferred. · Supervisory experience with direct reports including VAD leadership and supervision of RN Care Coordinators preferred.
