Under the direction of the Director of Surgical Services, the Manger of Sterile Processing is responsible for the planning, direction, and coordination of activities involved in the acquisition, decontamination, sterilization, assembly, and storage of medical and surgical materials and equipment, and related supplies, utilized in the care and treatment of patients at Ellis Medicine.
SECTION II
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with licensure in the state of New York or holds certification as a Registered Central Service Technician.
Four years of progressively responsible related work experience, including two years in a supervisory capacity.
A Bachelor’s degree is preferred.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION:
Demonstrates knowledge of current federal and state regulations (FDA, OSHA, EPA) and national standards (AAMI< AORN) recommended practices. Develops and maintains policies and procedures to ensure compliance with current regulations and accepted national standards. Monitors and documents sterilization processes for tracking processed instruments and substantiate compliance. Applies concepts of risk management to create a safe working environment. Demonstrates expert level knowledge of principles of decontamination and modes of disinfection, high-level disinfection and sterilization. Develops and maintains measurable competencies and performance standards for the training and ongoing evaluation of sterile processing technicians. Evaluates and selects efficacious, cost effective materials and systems to achieve department goals. Provides ongoing staff development and education. Demonstrates expert level knowledge of surgical instrumentation and surgical power systems. Implements processes to maintain instruments and equipment in optimal condition. Researches and selects vendors to maintain and repair instruments and equipment to increase device effectiveness, sustain inventory, and curb unnecessary expense. Provide current manufacturers’ instructions for use (IFU) for all instruments and devices which undergo processing in the department. Oversees personnel activities within the sterile processing department. Monitors performance and attendance of sterile processing technicians Demonstrates knowledge of Ellis Medicine human resource policies Provides feedback, coaching, and corrective action to personnel as necessary. Participates in recruitment, hiring, and termination activities. Prepares staffing schedule based on work volume and productivity. Exhibits knowledge of fiscal management. Contributes to the preparation of the operating budget. Manages department activities to remain within the constraints of the budget. Contributes to the preparation of the capital budget. Utilizes available financial resources to maximize productivity and explain variances. Displays commitment to superior customer service. Promotes a customer centric approach to all sterile processing customers. Acts as a resource to operating room staff: advising personnel regarding products, supplies, equipment, services, and instrumentation. Identifies opportunities for improvement. Participates in quality improvement activities. Regularly audits current processes and work practices. Encourages staff involvement in assessment, planning, and evaluation of processes related to quality of sterile processing operations and techniques. Salary Range: $27.52-41.27 /hour Pay is based on experience, skills, and education. Exempt positions under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) will be paid within the base salary equivalent of the stated hourly rates. The pay range may also vary within the stated range based on location.
