About the job:

In accordance with the Mission and Guiding Behaviors; the Manager will provide care in an atmosphere sensitive to each person's physical, emotional, social, and spiritual needs with respect to the beliefs and values of co-workers, patients and their families.The Manager functions in the spirit of teamwork with other hospital and center staff members to facilitate the daily operations of the sterile processing area of the Surgical Care Center.The statements contained herein reflect the general expectations and duties considered necessary to describe the principal functions of the job as identified and shall not be considered as a detailed description of all the expectations or work requirements which may be inherent in the position.

What you'll do:

Managing Performance:

Fosters an environment that promotes professional growth and development.Maintains 24 hour accountability for supervision of the Sterile Processing areas.Participates in the recruitment, selection, training, development, and retention of effective and efficient staff in the Sterile Processing areas.Mentors, coaches, evaluates, and disciplines staff in the Sterile Processing areas.Participates in the planning and implementation of orientation and ongoing staff education programs to assure staff competency and skill levels.Assures that appropriate staff is assigned to designated areas according to service levels on a daily basis.Assures accuracy of the bi-weekly payroll system for departmental associates and monitors the appropriateness and efficiency of worked hours.Maintains the standards and recommended practices for the Sterile Processing area and serves as a clinical and technical resource person and role model for staff.Supports fair and consistent Human Resource policy execution.

Planning:

Assists in the development of the departmental strategic plan for designated areas.Plans for adequate staff, supplies and equipment to maintain optimal service levels in designated areas.Collaborates with all members of the healthcare teams to anticipate needs.Plans for optimal use and maintenance of, and upgrades for the instrument tracking software application.

Financial Performance:

Assists in the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of annual budgets and contracts for designated areas.Monitors cost-effective use of human and material resources in designated areas.Achieves and maintains productivity standards.Performance Improvement:Assists in the development, implementation, and monitoring of policies, procedures, and protocols for designated areas based on Sterile Processing standards of care, regulatory and legislative standards, organizational quality objectives, safety and risk management standards, and optimal patient outcomesAssists in the planning implementation, and evaluation of the departmental performance improvement plan for designated areas, and assures adherence to quality monitoring standards.Manages risk and safety issues in designated areas.

Communication:

Fosters a collaborative working environment for all team members and staff.Supports interdepartmental and intradepartmental communication and cooperation.Participates in or delegates participation in Perioperative and organizational committees and task forces that relate to the goals and mission of the designated area.Participates in regular staff meetings with designated staff to communicate goals, objectives, plans, and progress.Makes rounds of the Processing areas on a regular basis throughout the day.Assures timely communication to the appropriate personnel regarding requests, changes, conflicts, needs, conflicts, and/or unusual occurrences.Communicates problems, issues, or needs as they arise to the Administrative Director of Perioperative Services.Provides performance feedback and /or counseling to staff when appropriate per hospitaland departmental policy.

What we're looking for:

Education: Associate's Degree required. Bachelor’s degree or IAHCSMM Certified Healthcare Leader (CHL) required.Licensure / Certification: IAHCSMM technical certification required after 6 months.Experience: Minimum of two year’s recent and relevant supervisory/managerial and clinical experience required.Effective Communication SkillsEvidence of strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work collaboratively.
