Description Position at Michigan CAT

This position is responsible for oversight and leadership for the efficient, cost-effective transport of equipment and products from company locations to customer sites across Michigan. Develop and maintain relationships with 3PL outside carriers for additional transport of dealership and customer equipment.  Directly supervises the fleet dispatcher and union lowboy drivers while ensuring compliance with The Department of Transportation for our drivers’ day-to-day operations.  Focus on safety, approves, and acquires safety equipment for the lowboy drivers, along with ensuring company trucks are maintained.    This is a customer-facing role as it relates to the hauling of equipment for the company and customers. Responsibilities: As a working manager, this role dispatches equipment deliveries and pick-ups most cost-effectively and achieves precise delivery time goalsSupports sales, rental, and service teams with transport prices/quotations to move equipment around the state. Must study and have a working knowledge of state and county transportation laws.  Develops/maintains relationships with MDOT, county governments and weighmasters to ensure understanding of issues related to permits, equipment inspections, frost laws and more.Works closely with the MFC DOT Compliance team.  Directly leads efforts to ensure driver safety performance, driver log compliance, and state safety inspection compliance.  Hours behind the wheel etc.  Coach drivers, managers, and dispatchers on defensive driving, pre- and post-checks, vehicle maintenance, FMCSA, and post-accident processes and procedures.  Manages the lowboy drivers per the Union Contract requirements, manages the overtime and annual performance reviews of this team. Develops and maintains a group of 3PL carriers for flex capacity when company lowboys are fully utilized.Supervises the fleet dispatcher / ensures we have permitting in place (cab cards) with all Michigan County governments for hauling and permitting.   Maintains and manages the cost to maintain our trucks, the scheduling of maintenance. Ensure freight variance is aligned with a percentage of sales.Works across company teams to cross-haul equipment with our rental store division. Occasional Responsibilities:Develops business cases for Capital Expenses related to trucks and trailers for this team. Ensure we operate in full accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) and that our compliance, safety, and accountability scores, along with our Behavior Analysis and Safety Improvement Categories information, are accurate.Responsible for department budgets within area of responsibility.  Supervisor Responsibilities:Yes - Supervises the fleet dispatcher and Union Lowboy Driver team.  Position Requirements: Required:High School Diploma or GED3 years or more of experience in the rental/transportation industrySupervisory experiencePreferred:Bachelor’s Degree with a business-related concentration5 years or more of experience in the rental/transportation industrySupervisory experience All MacAllister Machinery companies are an Equal Employment Opportunity Employer, including Disabled and Veteran applicants.
